RCA to cable subwoofer

Solved

Hello,

I would like to connect an RCA output (Sony amp) to my subwoofer (Sony) using bare speaker wires. I'm using speaker cable and adapters (https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B075S1X32X/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_i_IVomFb). I connected the two wires, then reversed them, but I have no sound. When I connect the subwoofer to a speaker wire output of the amp intended for the other speakers (front right, etc.), I get sound. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me how to proceed. Thank you.

Configuration: iPhone / Safari 13.1.2

Hello,

So you want to output from an RCA of an amplifier and connect it to a power input (equivalent to a passive speaker) on a subwoofer???

It's just not going to work!

It's like trying to power a refrigerator with a smartphone charger!

Can you tell me the type of this subwoofer?

Hello and thank you for your response.
I don't see a model number; it's the subwoofer of a Sony 5.1 home theater system. It is passive (does not have a power plug). Since the DVD player of the system is broken, I wanted to connect the speakers to my amp. The other speakers work, but the subwoofer does not. Is there a solution with this subwoofer, or do I need to get another subwoofer that is powered?

Hello,
this is a home theater system, does your amplifier belong to this original home theater set?
If your subwoofer does not have an RCA input, do not attempt to fiddle with the terminals of the subwoofer and the RCA outputs of the amplifier.
The RCA output is not amplified, the same goes for the pre-out output. So it is normal that it doesn't work.
And before connecting with the speaker wire, check the impedance of the subwoofer and the amplifier, otherwise you risk damaging either one.

The amplifier is not part of the home theater system. Thank you for your advice; I will avoid any "hacks." The subwoofer is marked Sony SS-WS34, impedance 3 ohms. I watched the video. What I understand from your answers is that the RCA output does not power the subwoofer, so I need to change the subwoofer, is that correct?

The only solution would be to use an amp just for him...

In that case, it would be better to find an active subwoofer at a cash converter, for example.
