WD Element 1042: Noisy but Functional

Hello,
I recently found a WD Element 1042 external hard drive, USB 3.0, 900GB in my belongings, and I wanted to use it to increase the storage capacity of my PlayStation 4.
First, I emptied the hard drive by copying the files to another drive and then formatted it to exFAT (it was originally in NTFS).
The copying and formatting took a long time, and the drive made a lot of noise.
A high-pitched and constant sound, a low sound, then some beeping, and now nothing.
However, as soon as I plug it in and unplug it, the noises start again, as well as when I try to create, save, or delete something on it.
I then tried plugging it into my PS4; it's recognized, but during the "compatible" formatting, I get a series of errors:
- connection error (did it lose the connection?)
- disk access error
In short, it's impossible to format it on the console.
Once I plug it back into the computer, I have to go through "disk management" to reassign a letter to see it appear in my devices.
Do you have any idea what might be happening with the drive?
I suspect a mechanical issue, but the drive still works (not flawlessly, but it works).
My goal would be to repair it (if necessary) and then connect it to the console.

PS: I quickly ran chkdsk /F, and there was nothing to report.....

test the disc with "crystal disc info "
it's a software that allows the user to know the status of their hard drive.
download it here
This software is very well designed, in fact it has a color system to inform you about the status of your HDD/SSD:
- Blue the hard drive/SSD has no problems
- Green the hard drive/SSD has no problems
- Yellow caution the hard drive/SSD has bad sectors, back up your data as soon as possible, then change the HDD/SSD
- Red the hard drive/SSD is very damaged, change it, it is about to fail
If possible recover the data.
- Gray the hard drive/SSD is detected but no longer works.

Thank you for the software, I tried this morning to perform the operation but the external hard drive is not recognized.
So I'm going to disk management to assign it a letter but now I have a new message telling me "Request failed due to a serious hardware error."
Do you have any idea how to fix a serious hardware error? During this confinement period, I can't go see a repairman....
Otherwise, I can only wait or buy a new external hard drive.
