TOURO mobile hard drive not accessible

Hello,

I have a TOURO Mobile USB 3.0 hard drive that I've had for two years and I can no longer access the files since today. For your information, I tried to access it on an Ubuntu computer last night without success.

I have a Packard Bell running Windows 8. The hard drive appears under the name "TOURO mobile" in the device manager, but it does not show up in My Computer. In the disk management, it is invisible, and there is a disk named "disk 1" that I cannot initialize ("hardware error"). I'm not sure if "disk 1" is my hard drive. I have tried:
- updating the driver: it says it's updated
- restarting the computer: without success
- plugging into USB 2.0: without success

What can I do? How can I check that the content hasn't disappeared?

Thank you

Here is the disk management (disk 1 is indeed my mobile Touro), and the error message when I want to initialize it.
I also included the error message I received when I wanted to display all the "events" from the disk.

    Thank you!

I fear that your external hard drive is dead, as it is not recognized even under an Ubuntu session...

Ah... that's what I feared. Is there no way (software or otherwise) to extract data from the disk (even on Ubuntu, even though I'm not very knowledgeable about Linux, it's a student computer) by a "last resort" method?
