Media Creation Tool Windows 8.1 for bootable USB, download not completed Solved

Hello,   I downloaded the media creation tool to create a bootable USB drive for Windows 8.1. I launched the program, selected the French version, 64 bit, so far so good; the program detects the USB drive. But then things go wrong: the program wipes all the data from the USB drive, which is fine, but then it closes with the message "download not finished," even though it hasn't even started at 0%! What should I do?

I want to repair one of my PCs that is stuck in a loop on automatic repair; its OS is Windows 8.1. For this, I need a bootable USB drive for Windows 8.1.  Being a novice in computing, I downloaded Media Creation Tool directly, not the ISO file because I don't have a DVD burner. Create your USB drive with Rufus, it's simple and explained in one image on the download link provided for the software. You just need to set it to GPT, no need to touch the other settings. You should not use the key to install, but to repair.  You go to the install page but do not click on it. Click on repair at the bottom.  Then go to advanced options and attempt a startup repair if necessary, a restore (a recent point, as you will lose anything done between that date and today). Have you restarted the system?  Normally, it gives you a table with the dates of the existing restore points if the restoration was enabled. You choose the closest point and start the restoration.  Was it indeed Windows 8.1 on your PC? Didn’t you upgrade from 8 to 10? So I followed your advice At first everything goes well, I click "install now," I accept the terms of the contract, I choose the custom option as you recommended, and once again it gets stuck I reach the partition screen but there are none! I told you to retrieve your data another way BEFORE.  Well ... the said table is completely empty? not a good sign if it doesn't see your hard drive.  What specific model of PC is it? Do you have another functional PC on hand? Was the PC in a repair loop or was it displaying nothing at all? Did you "mess around" in the BIOS without knowing too much? Indeed, but you told me they would be in the "old" folder and I don't have a hard drive at hand, so I'm taking the risk and if worse comes to worst, so be it.  The table is completely empty, I need to load a driver then browse to find something. F: X: and D: but no C:  Asus ROG G75VW (2012) Yes, another ASUS F751 recent (2015)  The PC in question keeps going into automatic repair, I tried to disable it, I did everything I could, in short, I concluded that a new Windows was needed. I disabled secure boot to launch the bootable USB, and otherwise, the problem has been ongoing for a long time; I had been enabling/disabling the battery (via BIOS) to access Windows for years, but it hasn't worked for a month already. I was enabling CD boots without even having them too... in short, I was tinkering to access Windows and it worked, but now it runs 24/7 on automatic repair or otherwise on the BIOS.  If you need screenshots, let me know, but I'm transcribing everything accurately in writing word for word.

bizarre ... if car repair is on, it seems that the hard drive is functioning and it should be seen at installation.  Turn on the PC and force a shutdown when you see the spinning wheel. Do this three times in a row. Well, I restarted the PC using the same method and luckily, it now shows 7 drives. I looked in "programs" but the software doesn't appear.  I only download everything that's personal, right? Everything that is Windows and other files that are impossible to open I leave? Copy/paste with multiple selection  In the example from the photo, I've taken the folder "object 3 d" (yes, because the others are personal) Inside, there are plenty of folders, images scattered, etc.   I'm not going to copy them one by one but all at once. Then I'm going to paste everything elsewhere.  So in your case, if you want to retrieve Images, Videos, Documents, Music, that makes a total of 4 copy-pastes, no more, if you do it correctly. The copying time may be long depending on your PC's power and the quantity. It's good, if possible, not to work on the PC during the copy, it will go faster.
