Unable to copy selection because the area is empty?

Hello,

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 79.0.3945.117

I suddenly can't select an area on an image with the rectangular selection tool? It tells me "unable to copy the selection because the area is empty"? I checked my feather and it's set to 80px (I hadn't changed it) and otherwise I had just before the ability to select although with the rectangular tool the selection is oval and when I try to copy I got a very pale copy (kind of transparent)??? What could this be due to? What might I have touched? Everything was working perfectly
I've been using Photoshop for over 20 years and I've never encountered this problem! Thank you for your responses.

Hello,

Normally, this problem is due to the fact that the wrong layer has been selected and what you want to select is on another layer.

I haven't touched the layers! That's the problem! Or maybe I did it unintentionally and I don't know how to get back to normal? Any ideas on how to restore my selection?

I mean that before the selection, you need to click on the right layer, then make the selection on the image. Can you take a screenshot of the problem otherwise?
