Hello
I just created a form in Word using the "Form" toolbar, but every time I unlock and lock the form fields using the "lock" icon, it resets my previously entered data.
Is there an option to fix this?
Thank you
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

    Let's be clear:

The form, once created and locked, is actually a template. You save it under the name "Machin".
To use it, the user (not necessarily you) opens the file "Machin", fills in the various fields, and saves their work under the name "Truc".
There is no question of opening and closing this lock constantly; you should only access it to modify the document itself or to update a dropdown list.
Most of the time, the form is used only to obtain a one-off printed document, which does not need to be archived.
Could you show me your document, using http:/cjoint.com/?
    Hi.

    Good evening,

Raymond is right in that a form is not meant to be unlocked. That said, it is indeed a frustrating problem when it comes to testing and making changes.
You don't mention your version, but I assume it's from before 2003, as this issue has been fixed since then.

With version 2002, there is a difference between the lock button on the Form toolbar and the menu Tools, protect document, Form, which behave differently:
The button does not erase the data while the menu does erase it!

On versions prior to 2002, we have a method which is to lock the field(s) with Ctrl+F11 (unlock: Ctrl+Shift+F11): to be used before re-locking.

But where do you get all this from?
I have to admit that sometimes you amaze me!
And I bet you were part of the Microsoft team that designed these software...
      Sincere regards.

    Hello Litepanel
If everything is alright, please check "problem solved" above the header of your first message. It makes a lot of people happy to see the green dots lining up in the left column.
Looking forward to hearing from you if needed

I would like to know how to find the lock icon used to lock Word documents. I've tried Tools - Customize, Toolbar but the lock icon is not there. Where can I go to find it?

There’s a lock only if you are creating/modifying/using a Form.

I still can't find the form menu that allows me to create or modify a form, I'm familiar with the old Word but not with Word 2007? Thank you for your help.

    Hello,

The Forms tools are found in the Developer tab, which is not displayed by default. To display it: Office button, Word Options.
On the right, under the section "Common options to use with Word," you check the option "Show the Developer tab in the ribbon."
Note that the old-style form fields are located under the "Legacy Tools" button.
The new ones are not compatible with older versions.

When we have multiple documents created with the form bar and can no longer access them as before, what do we do? We can't recreate documents with already filled dropdown lists?
