my computer won't type uppercase letters anymore

Hello,  I bought a new laptop less than a week ago, I'm happy with it but I must have made a mistake because I can no longer type uppercase letters (and numbers at the same time). I've been looking for a solution for two days but I can't find anything. When I press the shift key (the arrow pointing up on the left of my keyboard), it lights up but does absolutely nothing. I don't know what to do, can you help me? I'm using Windows 10, it's a Lenovo IdeaPad 340.   Configuration: Windows / Edge 18.18362

Hello  for the uppercase letters, try activating the small arrow (not the big one above) to see if it works without the "block" in uppercase  for the numbers, you need to enable the "num lock" key on the numeric keypad  but if it doesn't work, since the PC is almost new, return it for service or request an exchange or refund  for your information, I have the same one as you, except that I have 16 GB of RAM (bought as is at the multimedia space at Leclerc)  and it's really a good, well-balanced PC.

Thank you for your response, I also bought it at Leclerc.. My laptop is a 14-inch, I have the numbers at the top of the keyboard and I don't have a num lock key (I couldn't find it if there is one) For uppercase letters (and numbers) it works with the key below uppercase (by holding it down) there must be a manipulation that I must have done wrong, I have been searching for 2 days and it's starting to wear me out.

Hello, On the keyboard, there is a key to switch from lowercase to uppercase, it represents a padlock and is located on the left, above Ctrl, next to the Shift key (up arrow). So yes, I have this key with the LED, it lights up but it's impossible to get uppercase letters; that's the one I can't get to work.

Hello,  Your keyboard should look like this:   1- A press on the key to the left of the letter Q unlocks or locks the uppercase.  2- In the search field on the taskbar (It's the magnifying glass) type→ language bar Click on → Use the desktop language bar when available Click on the line → Language bar options  A little window opens. Go to the tab → Advanced key settings You have 2 possible choices: Select → Press the SHIFT key Then click OK   3- Another solution  Press the left SHIFT key 5 times (Caps LK) The STICKY KEYS panel will then appear. - Click on the link "Open Ease of Access options..." - Uncheck the "Turn on Sticky Keys" box. - Close the window.   You can also go through the control panel, type in the magnifying glass → control panel  See you later  -- pistouri

re you're overthinking it and wasting your time new pc = guaranteed pc = return to customer service if possible the original box; the charger, the documentation if there's any and the purchase invoice they will test it (or not) if there's a solution, they will find it if there's no "standard" solution, then exchange or refund! and that's it!

Alright  less than 8 days of operation and already issues  don’t let them push you around  DEMAND to see a manager (not the store clerk) or even the store director and insist on a replacement or a refund for this PC due to malfunction or hidden defect!  It's up to them to work out an agreement with the brand.  "Threaten" to contact consumer protection and any bad publicity that comes to mind... basically cause a scandal...   at worst, if they offer you a credit note, why not, it’s up to you to use it to buy the same or another model even if you have to add a bit more   if it fails again, send a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt to the store detailing your request (written records are important)  + contact a consumer association, or Julien Courbet why not!  but don’t give up, and especially don’t wait, the PC is guaranteed for 2 years (in general) at least 1 year, so 15 days is nothing at all  you have rights, make them count

Hello everyone,  I just got back and I restarted my PC after the factory reset recommended by the brand. So far, everything is working and the SHIFT key too, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything is finally back to normal. If it happens again, I will go back to the store. Thanks everyone.

On that note, on my friend's Lenovo, I saw an application (I don't remember the name or maybe Lenovo Utility UDW (Google help doesn't help much to find out), I looked at my notes on his sheet for the name) - A shock Anyway, lots of possibilities.  Question I saw that my friend's Lenovo starts in 3.8 seconds (it's true, I was right there and was really surprised by its SSD) And you? To find out, open the task manager Startup tab It's noted at the top right. My desktop PC is a turtle compared to that!   A+ -- pistouri

→ For the startup, it takes 2.3 seconds It's a F1 Afterwards, depending on what you install, it might be a bit slower, you already have a basic idea with this time. Keep an eye on what launches at startup because some software like, for example, Ccleaner can set itself to run at startup if you're not careful.  They say the average lifespan of a PC is 7 years, but there are other factors involved, especially gaming. Like everything, it's about wear and the quality of the components. Anyway, I won't bore you with all that, give us some feedback to see if everything is okay in let's say 1 to 2 weeks, roughly before the end of the year. re happy for you I advise you to quickly create a disk image and save it somewhere other than the system drive (an external drive, the cloud, burning it to a CD, on a USB stick... it doesn't matter, just save it!) it could be useful one day every 4/6 months, make a new image to account for recent files and folders (you can do an incremental image), but it's also quick to do a complete one again. in case of a crash, you can restore the PC to the date of the image, it’s better than a bare Windows.

Hello nadellen,  → I advise you to quickly create a disk image  Aloise may not know what that means. Avoid what is offered in the control panel under → Recovery apparently if you modify registry keys, the restoration may not work.   Freeware like Macrium or AOMEI Backupper will do the job  A whole list here  I use Acronis but it's paid, easy to handle, ideal for backing up all partitions in 20 or 30 minutes, even faster to restore. Full backup and not incremental as recommended by nadellen (I agree). Every month when I remember, in my case, not always in a mindset or having the time with the PC. Now it just remains to pay up and that's another story. It's better to prioritize a USB key, more practical because a simple scratch on a DVD and it's ruined.  →  it's better than a bare Windows :-))   .....
