Non-breaking space after apostrophe

Hello,
in Word 2007, my apostrophes are followed by a large space that I can't remove without also deleting the apostrophe and the preceding letter.
I just read and tried the proposed solutions, but I can't seem to get it right (I'm not sure I understand everything!). I apologize for asking the same question again.
I think I accidentally made an incorrect manipulation (it happened to me several years ago, but I forgot what correction to make).
Thank you very much in advance (especially since this is happening on an important administrative document!).

yes, I had read this topic from all angles, tried the proposed solutions without success... and this morning, when I restarted my computer, everything was back in place in my document and it’s holding up!! I don't understand the cause of the problem but it’s resolved.
