WiFi Repeater Setup

Hello,

I installed a wifi repeater at home because my house is too big and the walls are thick. It's not working great; some devices, especially the TV upstairs that is supposed to connect to the repeater, keep losing connection (which is annoying when I'm watching a replay, for example). It loses connection, and I think it's because it picks up the wifi from my box and the repeater (since they have the same name), so at some point, it must not know which one to connect to and switches, losing the signal.
So, is it possible to configure the repeater to create a network that doesn't have the same name, but a different one to avoid this issue? Or does the repeater only work if the repeated network is identical? I should have gone for powerline adapters from the start; I was dumb...
Thanks in advance!

Configuration: iPhone / Safari 12.1

Hello,

Depending on the electrical installation, the powerline adapters sometimes give random results... In the relay configuration, it should be possible to set it up as a second network with a different name. But if you don't provide the reference, I can't tell you more ;)

Best regards,

Thank you for this answer!
The model is a TP-LINK RE200 Wi-Fi Repeater AC 750 Mbps.
By the way, can we chain this type of device? Or must they all be connected to the main box? (The house is long and the box is at one end...)

You can chain them together without any issues, it's common sense, but just make sure that each repeater is within the range of the previous one (or the router) and not just on the edge, to avoid significant performance degradation. By accessing your repeater's configuration via http://tplinkrepeater.net, you can change the SSID (network name) so that there are two distinctly different networks. (Settings > Wireless > Extended Network)
