Hello and congratulations for all the issues that have been resolved thanks to you.

I hope I'm posting the topic in the right forum.

I just received a kimax BS-HD03WF dock, intended among other things to connect an external hard drive via WiFi. I received documentation that is not very explanatory.

I have a Livebox Play and I'm on Windows 7 Pro.

When wired to the box or the computer, there are no issues, the different HDDs are recognized and I can copy and paste files.
But as soon as I try to proceed via WiFi, I can't do it. However:
- I can connect to the kimax WiFi network
- I can connect to the configuration address 192.168.... of the kimax
I've made several configuration attempts but without success.

If anyone could have a solution to resolve this issue.

I thank in advance everyone who will try to help me.

    Here is the rear view that I assume, do you have it or not..?



    if so, we need to reconsider everything... no longer connect via USB but with an RJ45 cable directly to the back of your BOX... and then configure it... I believe you have a CD for that..?

      Yes, it's this kind of product, and I had requested a more understandable manual but to no avail, which is why after 10 days of struggles I'm trying CCM.
      - No, I don’t have a CD, and only once connected to the Kimax via Wi-Fi can I modify the settings through the address 192.168... where I can, among other things, change DHCP or PPPoE or Wi-Fi relay or static.
      (it's set to automatic DHCP)
      - Yes, there are 2 RJ45 ports at the back, so I can connect it via RJ45 and/or USB cable to a computer or to my Livebox.
      In summary:
      - via Wi-Fi I can easily connect to the Kimax network and modify its settings through the address 192.168....
      - Kimax shows up in the network list via Wi-Fi, but my HDD does not appear when I open Kimax
      - RJ45 Kimax/computer = Kimax visible in the "network" list but the HDD does not appear in the Kimax network AND I have no internet.
      - RJ45 Kimax/box = no internet and network refresh impossible... and no landline phone
      - USB Kimax/box = HDD recognized and functional in the Livebox network
      - USB Kimax/computer = HDD recognized and functional in the "computer" disk list

      Could the problem be regarding the IP settings... DHCP... or others?

    The NAS function is indicated as follows:

    The wireless is said to be: Connected to another LAN..??

    This implies to me that this device is connected via cable to the BOX (ethernet) and that the redistribution of video or music to users (smartphones, tablets, etc.) would occur via Wi-Fi on another network, meaning a different IP number...??? which is not impossible, I've seen that with other equipment before.

    Users can only read the content and not access the rest of the network...
    Only the admin can also write to the disk, and only through the wired connection...??

    I admit I don't know this device, but check carefully if the smartphones are not receiving differently and if they have access..??

    You should also have user interface menus that allow you to configure settings..??
    Where do you connect it to your BOX, in these cases...

      I don't quite understand what you mean but I haven't tried my smartphone (I don't have one lol).
      When I'm on my Livebox network and connect it to the USB port of the computer or the USB port of the box, I can copy and paste files.
      But as soon as I unplug the USB cable and connect via Wi-Fi to the Kimax network, I can't do anything.

      I hope I was clearer. I don't know how to upload the documentation to the forum.

    OK, I think I'm starting to understand a bit better... in fact, this drive is not a network drive... that is, not connected by Ethernet cable to your LiveBox... No, it doesn't have an RJ45 port.

    It is only connected via USB... and you connected this USB to your BOX... you cannot access it via Wifi, nor from the internet from outside, it's like putting a USB drive in it...
    I have a case, with a USB drive on my BOX, from another PC via Wifi, I can see a video, listen to music, but can't save anything to the drive... and even then, provided your folders are well organized with the following names: Videos, Images, Music. These names are important.

    You can access it with a PC connected via Ethernet.

    It is clearly indicated: 
    wifi auto-generated for media
    this means your drive creates its own wifi (which is not that of the BOX) and as described, to be broadcasted, you need to go through a bridge connected to the LAN network...
    this means your drive must be connected via USB to a PC that is itself connected to the LAN network of the LiveBOX in order to be redistributed... by properly configuring the sharing.

    It can also be connected in the same way via USB, to a PC on wifi that shares with the rest of the network...
    I also think I understand that it's a maximum of five people at the same time...

    There you go, I suppose it works, but it's not simple... let's add that I may not have understood everything correctly, but I can't be far off.

    Check carefully if you have an RJ45 port on the back, next to the 12 volts port because I've seen photos like this... which would simplify everything if you could connect that way.. because there are several models.

      The product is good but it is difficult to set up, the manual in Chinese is not helpful, the Chinese website is different, I was only able to get it to work on my local network, without Internet access, connected directly to the router via a switch, where all the computers connected to the same network can view it and share files with each other. It would be great if GearBest provided a tutorial in English at least on how to set up the device, as if experienced users find it complex, it will be impossible for users who are not familiar with computer networks.

      Suggestion
      The lack of an instruction manual in English or even in Portuguese, a small manual in Chinese and the product website is also in Chinese, which makes setup difficult for knowledgeable users and practically impossible for ordinary users.


      So I strongly think that you have RJ45 connectors on the back..?? Take a picture and paste it here.

    There's no need to hide the end of the IP addresses (192.168....), it doesn't serve any purpose other than complicating the analysis of your problem

    The Livebox is at 192.168.1.1, what IP address is your device using?

      If it is not on the same network as the box (192.168.1.254 for example), you are unlikely to see it on your local network.

      I can understand that, but when I connect to the kimax network (in the dropdown list of wifi networks at the bottom right), I can see "network" in the explorer W7, and I can see the kimax, but there's no HDD visible inside. (my HDD works fine because it is detected via USB on the computer or the livebox)

      How can I access this hard drive over wifi with the different computers in the house? Either through the livebox network (that would be great) or directly via the kimax network.

      Is it possible?

      Because now I might as well connect a 2.5" HDD directly via USB to the livebox instead of using the kimax. The problem is that the HDD disconnects after a few hours because the USB port of the livebox heats up.

      If it can help move things forward, I can take screenshots when I am connected to the kimax address 192.168....

      @kaumune is right in his description and also regarding your hidden IPs; on the local network, everyone has the same... what needs to be hidden is your external IP, the one that Orange gives you.

      -- For me, in the long term of a proper setup, the most effective would be to connect via RJ45 to the LAN of your LiveBox... and you would receive it everywhere, on the same WiFi as the LiveBox... it's the beginning of a network.

      -- But before that, it needs to be configured correctly... it's well stated that it should be connected to a PC (and not to a BOX or a network) first... There’s also a management software that needs to be downloaded... And this disk has an initialization phase that lasts at least two minutes... so you can't simply change the disk afterward...
      It is also mentioned that over WiFi you can read files... it’s not set to "Write"...

      But I have to be absent and I will only return in the evening.
      In fact, I wasn't hiding it, but I didn't see the point in writing it out in full... and the damage is repaired.
      It's precisely this configuration that is causing me trouble because if I connect the kimax via RJ45 to the box, I no longer have internet and I can't access the HDD either, with kimax being visible in the network in Windows 7 Explorer.

      If I understand correctly, the software would only be an application that would serve smartphones and tablets to connect via Wi-Fi.

      Thank you for your help and I have no doubt that we will be able to solve this problem.

    In my opinion, it's not a matter of two days..?

    Could you send the same pages of your manual to the site cjoint.com https://cjoint.com/ for a clearer and zoomable reading, the one from CCM has the text really small, even when enlarged, the characters are speckled with white... Anyway, it's not it.

    I understand that there are two Wi-Fi, the one from your LiveBox and the one from your HD03WF that do not work together, the standalone Wi-Fi of this drive is on a different broadcast, it's meant for when you go on vacation or to a conference and you take your drive with you... your friends, students, or seminar attendees can connect to this box and follow your explanations or videos on their PCs or smartphones, independently of the camping or hotel Wi-Fi... But they have to switch networks by choosing from the available networks within their reach... and it's not the same... This is what I understand.

    That said, we might be able to sort it out so that it's the same... but we have to do that after mastering more basic things... it would require being on the same channel and I am indeed worried about conflicts with the other Wi-Fi that emits in the same area... especially since we can do it differently... with the LAN connection.

      Do you read and understand this notice in English?? If so, I won't bother translating, especially since once the configuration is done, it won't really be useful anymore...?

      First, your new, empty disk must be connected to a PC via USB cable. This disk must be formatted either in FAT32, NTFS, or EXT4 (Linux). After that, you need to turn off the disk and remove the USB cable from the PC...

      Attention: you cannot use the USB connection at the same time as Wi-Fi, it's one or the other...

      You restart your disk... and on the PC, you look for the KIMAX***** network and connect to it. The password is 00000000 eight zeros === OK
      Then you open your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox, for example) and in the address bar, you type 192.168.169.1 and this should lead you to your disk's configuration menus.

      What kind and size of disk do you have..?

      No, thank you, but I understand it pretty well, and as I mentioned in the comment associated with the link, I ran it through a translator. I took advantage of having some time to take screenshots of my connection 192.168... from the kimax if you want.
      I hope my answers address your questions and that they are as clear as possible.

      - YES, I can connect to the kimax network and then I can access 192.168..

      - 192.168.169.1 = kimax configuration panel and at no point do I see the hdd.
      The hdd = WD 160go 1 single NTFS

      It’s really strange that the hdd is only recognized via USB with the computer and via USB with the box.

      I know it’s mentioned in the FAQ of the manual regarding HDD not being recognized, but I’ve followed the procedure and nothing works.

    All the used HDDs work. I access them via USB with computers, TV... but I just changed it anyway.
    I installed a 60GB SSD on which I just created a file via USB... it's the same.
    I sent you 2 screenshots from explorer and diskmgmt of the SSD connected via USB + RJ45 to the computer

    Initialized HDD = I think they mean partitioned HDD in NTFS?

    Impossible to set to static without new configuration.
    STATIC IP = I'm sending you a screenshot of the kimax (internet setting) because there are parameters to enter, especially the gateway. (I think for the rest, it has to be the same configuration you mentioned earlier for the "Lan setting").

    I'm attaching a screenshot "Advanced setting" because it talks about NAS configuration.
    Port 21 remains the same.

    wifi setting: sometimes the channel changes: 1 - 6, is that normal?

    It's still frustrating to see the kimax in the network list and not see the HDD/SSD recognized.

    I will configure it as NAS when I get confirmation of the "static IP" configuration.

    Do you see the different discussion threads and links to the screenshots I posted to jeannets? (apparently I wasn't posting in the right place because I was commenting on jeannets' responses).

    I tested this "on a whim" with a static IP !! connected to my box via wifi + KIMAX through rj45 with the box. And there, miracle, I was able to go online.
    With all the tests I've conducted, I'm not too sure where I stand anymore.

    Do you want me to connect later via rj45 to the box or should I stay on wifi? on static IP?

    Do I also need to modify the land setting in the same way? Namely
    IP: 192.168.1.254 --
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    DNS ???
    Should I re-upload the screenshots via cjoint?

    Hello,

    In your first photo, the Gateway is wrong; it should be set to 192.168.1.1

    In the second photo, it's not a big deal, but you can disable FTP for now.

    For your local IP, the number must start with 192.168.1.xxx; it's the xxx that changes the number of your device, you can put whatever you like..! but it must not duplicate with another one and it must also respect the authorized range in your LiveBox as @kaumune mentioned (whom I greet). But then you need to stick to this IP...
    That said, this won't change the fact that you can't see your drive, and that bothers me..!
    -- I don't see a screenshot of the disk manager..?

However, it is a "Logical" disk, it's not a Primary partition. and there are files in it, at 44%... so it's not Kimax that initialized it
    also, we don't see the Kimax in your network... We see Acer, Asus, LiveBox... and if we see LiveBox, it means there's a USB key plugged into it.
    I remind you that the two simultaneous connections do not work, it's the USB that takes priority.

      I think something is happening at that moment... subject Initialization... they say: 

      1. Insert the hard drive into the corresponding socket.
      2. Connect the power supply, then use the USB cable to connect the computer. You can store files in disk management.
      (The new hard drive must be initialized for the first time, do not remove the disk, only Disk Manager is visible. Specific steps can be checked on Baidu by searching for "disk initialization". It is recommended to format the disk in EXFAT format, or FAT32 / NTFS / EXT4; other formats may result in wireless storage, or it may only be readable and not writable. Disconnect the USB cable once initialization is complete.


      Baidu is a Chinese browser.

      I think that at the very beginning, initialization is formatting, Kimax (with a disk in place) is directly connected to the PC via a USB cable... formatting is underway... but I suspect the KIMAX electronics remember the identity of the hard drive that is inside at that moment... and afterwards, it recognizes it or not...
      Can it have several stored IDs? I don't know...

      So with that in mind, you could reset your Kimax, it would return to its factory state... and start over while strictly following the chronological order...
      That's my suggestion.

    Yes, those are HDDs, formatted and partitioned with Easeus, which I use on the fly with a SATA/USB connector cable.
    I record and watch multimedia files on the TV.... they are all in good working condition.
    If the live box appears, it's because I have one of these HDDs connected, via the SATA/USB cable, to the USB port of the box. It doesn't interfere at all, but I can disconnect it if you wish. (I've already done it, and it doesn't change anything).

    I will therefore install a new HDD that I will format and initialize with Kimax. Maybe you were right about this point. It would explain everything, but it wouldn't be very practical for the HDDs already in service!!
    If I chose this model, it was precisely for the easy change of the HDD.

    Will they be usable via USB on other computers outside of my network? I will test all of this

    I will proceed with this formatting, and I will keep you updated.

      Yes, I've thought about it too; it's true that with a named disk, it becomes less practical. But as I discover more (experience), the solution will come... It is also possible that it can accept several...

      - I would add that I have already seen some disks formatted with Easeus... and they have a marking, you can tell they were formatted with Easeus... is that...?? and I prefer GParted, either under Linux or on a live CD. https://gparted.org/livecd.php it is very convenient for partitioning or resizing.

      -- Generally, there are no unusable disks due to previous use... They are reformatted properly and a new life awaits them... however, there are still some tricky cases.

      -- I did notice in the Kimax Status menu that the disk size was zero bytes...?? so there is a reason for that...

      Yes, GParted is a very handy tool. But my new formatting was done with the Windows tool... and in my opinion, it wouldn't work with all the HDDs tested.

      In any case, I really thank you for the time you spent on me.

      I think it will end up connected via USB to the TV and that's it.

      I believe that as long as the HDDs are not recognized, there’s no point in continuing with the IP settings and the like?

      Unless that could solve the problem?

      What do you think?

      Apparently, I would be the only one with this issue? Am I then, unknowingly, a burden? :-( !!!

    Nothing works.
    - new 2.5" 80GB HDD formatted NTFS + 1 primary partition (recognized as drive E when connected to Kimax via USB)
    - HDD in the Kimax via USB to the computer.
    - Formatting + initialization done via Windows Disk Management tool.
    - Kimax + computer restarted after formatting

    - still visible in the network list but HDD not recognized (via WiFi on Kimax network)
    - the HDD is only recognized when Kimax is connected 'via USB!!

    Hardware problem? Honestly, I don't think so.

      The page 5 of the DOC Excel file index "Router" seems to properly control the authorized devices and shared files... It may be at that moment that your PC's identity is registered with its MAC address and that allows you to view the files or not..??

      -- There are four blue points that authorize or not... the connection... the sharing...
      So.. it is quite possible that you are authorized for the connection but not for the sharing...

    no, I haven't reset the kimax yet. (I saw your post only when I was shipping mine)

    the Kimax is only recognized via USB on the box or on the computer.

    I just connected randomly to the hdd:
    - kimax via USB on the box and my computer via Wi-Fi on the box....and I see there is a file: media_db.csp

    what is a .csp file?

    (I didn't change the IP because it needs to be set to static.... but it seems it was the same). I'll do it again and let you know after the reset.

      Question: Can you put two hard drives in your Dock..? because I see SD and micro SD card slots and USB... Can those be removed to place a second drive, which could be useful for cloning for example?
      Because I saw it on a site with the same reference as yours..

      Yes, I had already seen it.. and I think the software is the same as yours, adapted to this disk enclosure while yours is a DOCK.

      If you look at the first home page, "Router Information" you can see the disk capacity under "Storage Space" 953GB, so it's a 1TB drive that is formatted... and for you, that place is indicated as Zero... ??

      Note in passing that it has six blue dots at the bottom... two PCs are allowed to access.

      For your network, the settings should be under ===>System===>LAN which we don't see often. That's where you need to enter your local network IP 192.168.1.110...........or 254

      At first, I was really impressed by the description of this device. It seems to work like the Apple Time Capsule and even better! :) In reality, the HD03WF works well but has some technical issues, bugs, and glitches. In my opinion, there is no way to set it up without assistance if you speak English. The KIMAX website has no content in English. The user manual for this device is very brief and does not cover all usage scenarios. But it seems I was lucky - I got exclusive support in English on the Banggood site! :) To wrap up, I received the device in 3 weeks, very well packaged, with no damage. I set it up in 2 nights and started using a service on the home network with my smart TV, a laptop, an iPad, and two iPhones. So now it’s been two weeks of using this device. I haven't thrown it in the trash. I’m positive and looking forward to the new KIMAX app update for iPads!!! :)


      Isn't there a possible update by connecting in the menus?

      I got in touch with the Chinese seller who just replied to me. He wants me to send him videos... I think this deal is going badly....

      Hi, sorry Jeannets, I just got back.

      With all the time spent trying to solve this problem, I didn't pay attention to the deadline, and I only have until Tuesday to express my dissatisfaction lol.
      The seller tells me to post a video, which I just made, by the way, not without difficulty (5 minutes 186MB .avi), but....impossible because the only allowed format is photo format lol (jpg....).
      talk about an error!!!
      I’m waiting to hear back from him to get the procedure for sending my video, but time is running out.
