Speaker Polarity Reversal
Solved

Hello,
I have an amplifier and I got some HI-FI speakers.
The problem is that the speaker cables are not marked, no colors, they are identical. So I don’t know which one corresponds to which side. Until now, my speakers were marked with a black wire and a red wire.
I don’t know if it’s dangerous to reverse the polarity; I don’t want to damage my amplifier or my speakers.
So is it dangerous? How can I recognize the correct direction?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
No, it's not dangerous, at least at low volume. However, the sound is worse when the polarity is reversed because the speaker works backwards. So, with a good ear, it's quite easy to hear the difference. In one case, the sound seems muted, while in the other, it is clearer and more powerful!Jean-François PillouFondateur de CommentCaMarche.net
