Hello,
I have an Asus running Windows 10. For some time now, whenever I log into my session, or my daughter logs into hers, my entire desktop keeps appearing and disappearing constantly for at least 20 minutes before it stabilizes... I can't do anything. I call it "the carousel".... It happens again when I'm on the internet and trying to download a document from my PC, like attaching a file to an email, for example, or conversely when I want to save a document or photo from the internet to my PC. It's a nightmare. I've done virus scans, etc... Deleted files, etc... nothing. I had Malwarebytes but had to remove it because it was causing another bug. When I press Ctrl Alt Delete and go to the task manager, my CPU is running at full capacity!! Almost 100% in the red. I don't know why. My PC is 7 years old. Is it too old, worn out? Is there a solution? I'm writing to you from my tablet because my PC is still in carousel mode and I'm wasting a lot of time trying to resolve this issue. Help me or I’m going to crack!!!!

Disable all context menus as indicated on this page: https://www.malekal.com/plantage-explorer-exe-clic-droit/
~~
Then, run a SFC scan and repair
In the Start menu search, type Command Prompt
Right-click on the Command Prompt, then run as administrator.
In the black Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow in the window.
It should tell you that the protection has detected damaged items,
that you need to restart to fix them. At that point, restart.

Hi. So it’s starting to get complicated for me. For now, I’ve looked at your link. If I understand correctly, I'm only dealing with the dropdown menu part. I've downloaded Autoruns. The zip files opened in folders, I didn’t have time to see which one… because I wanted to check if one was created on my desktop, and I minimized it… Big mistake because the loading circle is back and I need the desktop to display long enough for me to catch the folder icons and for the PC to register my request to enlarge… we’re not getting anywhere, as they say here… But which one do I extract since there are several files in Autoruns?

Ouch!! My PC is dying!!! I managed to get to the screen to enter my session but there's no desktop at all!! Black screen! I'm trying to log in to my daughter's session. Hallelujah!! I typed command prompt and right-clicked, then ran as administrator and typed what you told me. It's working... waiting for the results. We're making progress!!

Try this in safe mode with networking:
To check the computer, I invite you to perform this FRST scan and return the reports:
Follow the FRST tutorial. ( take the time to read carefully - everything is well explained ).
Download and run the FRST scan,
Wait for the scan to finish, a message will indicate that the analysis is complete.
Three FRST reports will be generated:- FRST.txt
- Shortcut.txt
- Additionnal.txt
Send these 3 reports to the site https://pjjoint.malekal.com/ to share them.
In return, provide the 3 pjjoint links leading to the reports here in a new response so we can consult them.

Hi,
It seems to be an Explorer crash, causing the taskbar and Start menu to disappear and reappear when it restarts.
To check the computer, I invite you to run this FRST analysis and provide the reports in return:

Thank you. My PC has stabilized. I'm going to take advantage of it to do what you told me. I'll keep you posted.

Well, it's not going as planned. The analysis is finished. When I clicked OK, the first document opened which caused the infamous spinning wheel.... and then no desktop at all...! I disconnected with ctrl alt del and reconnected to my session. The desktop came back and it's back to the ride again!! So now, I'm waiting for it to stabilize before continuing the maneuver... see you later!! For new adventures..

You have programs that were installed when you bought the computer or installed later that are not necessarily useful.
They clutter Windows and can slow it down.
You can therefore uninstall them.
Go to Control Panel
then Programs and Features.
Uninstall:
ASUS LifeFrame3
CyberLink
Dropbox (unless you are syncing)
Java
RealPlayer / RealNetwork (unless you are using it)
You indeed have crashes of explorer:

and see if it continues to crash, we'll assess then.

So I uninstalled everything you told me to. It's more responsive, but the problems persist. I tried to download a document and it closes everything. So I turned off and then restarted the PC and it's still stuck in a loop...the desktop disappears and reappears...I had hope...what else can I do? In any case, thank you for your help!!
