Hello everyone,

Yesterday I uploaded a new version of the Malekal Live CD.
For those who don't know it, there's a presentation here: https://www.malekal.com/malekal-live-cd-reparer-depanner-pc-windows/

Here is the list of included software:
  • 7Zip
  • FRST
  • FileZilla
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Boot issues:
    • BootIce: manage Windows MBR and UEFI booting
    • EasyBCD
  • Disk and file scanning:
    • HDD Raw Copy
    • dd for Windows
    • CrystalDiskInfo
    • HD Tune: SMART checks
    • OverDisk: SMART checks
    • PC Inspector File Recovery
    • ShadowExplorer (recover previous versions)
    • Testdisk and Photorec
    • WD Data Lifeguard
  • Partitioning:
    • MBR2GPT
    • Minitool Partition Wizard
  • Windows key recovery:
    • ProductKey
    • ShowkeyPlus
  • Windows user: Password loss or re-enable a user
    • NTPWEdit
    • Password Renew
  • Hardware
    • BlueScreenview
    • GPU-Z
    • CPUID HWMonitor
    • CrystalCPUID
    • Speccy
    • Memtest (it's not the usual one but another utility that doesn't seem great, I'll see if we can integrate another one).
  • Remote access
    • VNC viewer
    • Teamviewer (it doesn't seem to work)

With this, you can easily:
  • Retrieve your Windows key (ShowkeyPlus or ProductKey)
  • Restore an administrator user or reset the password of a local account (NTPWEdit Password Renew)
  • Recover BSOD info (BlueScreenview)
  • Test hardware (SMART) or Memtest

I will need some tests to confirm some things.

For the superheroes of IT...

For the family superheroes, those we call for help when something is not working and who put on their mask and cape to fix it.
Do you see any missing tools or things that could be useful?
Be careful, we can’t integrate everything but just in case I missed something.
We can add stuff like Acronis, EaseUS but there's already Minitool.
I don't see the point of Acronis since they have their own WinPE.

Do you use other tools for hardware or repairs?

I will add Recuva and a video stress test.
Recuva is so-so, but well, as everyone uses it.
The video stress test could be nice to test your graphics card.

Need info or testers

It's mainly for internet via Wifi; it's always a plus to have it to download a tool or get help via a forum when you have no other computers.

I only have a laptop at my disposal and I will need testers mainly to see if the internet works.
Apparently, the drivers for Ethernet cards work well.
For Wifi, it's more complicated.
I've added quite a few drivers for Dell and HP and also some Astheros cards that seem to be very common on ASUS computers.

For Astheros, here are the drivers for these cards:
AR922X
AR9462
AR9485
AR9485WB
AR956x
QCA9377

Are there people with ASUS users, do you have other cards?
Or people who have Dell or HP laptops to test the ISO to see if it works?

The Wifi configuration is from this page: https://www.malekal.com/creer-live-cd-malekal-depanner-ordinateur/
It's basic, you should manage without it.

The link to the Live CD: https://mega.nz/#!Z5ZQ3Q4S!VUvBTTXBczkyVvczk-bj4LUljl2CrK2cRQ_i7SXYvGY

If there are any motivated testers, also try this one: https://mega.nz/#!lg5xFIBI!bEuyALN0rL92qUpLtBE4OPXBYQBvQ5yqwuWNwrN_cog
There are fewer programs, but the driver support seems better.

Configuration: Well put together!

Hi,

Speccy can be removed and so can CrystalCPUID.

HWMonitor provides most of the information on voltages, temperatures, loads, and usages.

However, you can add CPU-Z, because I see GPU-Z but not CPU-Z, to replace CrystalCPUID; it is more complete as it also provides information on memory, etc.

As for MemTest, the "reference" one is the one from PassMark with MemTest86+. :-)

I like Speccy, the problem with HWMonitor is that for a basic user, I think it's too complicated.
Too much stuff, they're going to get scared.

Okay for CPU-Z, there’s also SSD-Z.
Well, it's a bit redundant all that.

For MemTest, the "standard" one is PassMark's with MemTest86+. :-)

Yes, but I think you can include it, it seems it's not provided as a binary.
You have to use their image to create a USB stick.

For MemTest, indeed, the goal is to boot the machine on MemTest to thoroughly test the memory and exclude any external interference in the test, especially an unstable OS that could be the source of the problem... it allows to check the memory itself and exclude the OS.

For HWMonitor, it's a bit more "complete," but that’s also the purpose of having a diagnostic toolbox. Having effective and comprehensive tools that allow for straightforward diagnostics, especially when using the box in parallel with a forum...

And then, the people who will use this type of tool, just like Hiren's, have a minimum of knowledge and won’t shy away from HWMonitor ;-)

SSD-Z, yes, but I admit I don't use it much... there's little need for "deep" information on SSDs, as long as we have the health status... with the model references, we generally know where to find the information. And CrystalDiskInfo already provides the model references.

Hi Malekal,

The portable version of Speecy displays temperatures that are 20° higher than the actual temperatures on AMD Ryzen, Ryzen 1700X in my case.
HWINFO64x correctly shows the difference in readings between CPU Tclt and CPU Tdie:

If you want to keep it because it's very easy to understand, there should be a warning for Ryzen owners so they don't panic like I did at first with a brand new computer... I couldn't understand why it was so hot...

It's Speccy's fault in this case... Or not entirely.

See here: https://overclocking.com/amd-ryzen-20c-de-moins/

It's AMD that introduced an "offset" to "distort" the measurement... And indeed, it can be shocking. ;-)

Well, it only concerns 2 CPUs (1700X and 1800X), so tough luck, I really chose the wrong one :/

Here I uploaded another version with HWiNFO64 but I left the others for now.

Any brave souls to test the Wifi or if there are any people with Asus to check if the Wifi card is supported?
Or any Lenovo laptops to find out what Wifi card they have?

Courageous people to test the Wifi, or if not, are there any people with Asus laptops to check the Wifi card to see if it's supported?
Or anyone with Lenovo computers to find out what Wifi card they have?

I have a bit of both on hand, but not a lot of time to go out and check. I'll look into it by the end of the week, if I have a little time. :-)

The Asus should work for you; you mentioned your card model in the disconnection topic.
It's in the list from the initial post, right?
I'd be glad for you to test it out, yes.
What card is it on the Toshiba?

Also, I don’t know about crapoulou if the Intel will work.

Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter (Toshiba)
it's good, they're on the list.
I'm downloading, and I'll try to see.

Hello,

I had never seen that you had a live CD. There's so much on your site ;-)

I've been using tool box CDs for about twenty years. Firstly, programs that would run under DOS, then live Windows like bouldows, winpechr, Hiren's, the latter being the best with its miniXP. In Win10, I use a DLCBoot, but with a qwerty keyboard :-/

I tried version 1703 and the test version on 4 laptops (Sony Vaio, Dell D430, Dell XPS M1210, Dell E4300) and one desktop (Dell Optiplex 960).

WiFi works on 2 PCs (Sony and Dell M1210 on iso 1703 and test the same, but on the latter, the PENework version is better as it displays the list of visible WiFi networks in the systray). What's curious is that the WiFi card is the same on M1210 and D340, and I checked in the device manager that the driver loaded in both cases is the same, but on the first PC, WiFi is OK and KO on the second, no visible WiFi network.

I tested TeamViewer; indeed, it doesn't work. I even reloaded another version. You can see in the task manager that it starts, then quickly terminates.

On version 1703, out of the 4 laptops, I have an anomaly at launch.

Line 9420 or 9421 depending on the PC. Could it be a screen resolution issue? The anomaly does not exist on the desktop PC or on your test version.

Is HWiNFO64 the test version or is it a third version?

The test version seems smoother. And better: it starts with Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

Thank you for the tests.

Hiren, doesn't it support UEFI?

The wifi works on 2 PCs (Sony and Dell M1210 on ISO 1703 and the same test, but on the latter, the PENework version is better because it displays the list of visible wifis in the systray). What’s curious is that the wifi card is the same on M1210 and D340, and I looked in the device manager, the driver loaded in both cases is the same, but on the first PC wifi is OK and KO on the second, no wifi networks visible.

Okay, that's what I thought, the test version works better.
If I understand correctly, for the one where it doesn't work, you see the Wifi card but no network?
I noticed that sometimes you have to turn off the Wifi and turn it back on for the networks to show up.

Well, I'm already happy, I thought it would be worse than that.
What type of Wifi card is it?

~~

For Teamviewer, I saw :(
For your SetResolution error, I have the same on my laptop but not on the VM.
I don’t really know what it’s due to.

The test version is more promising, it’s a new project but for now, there are very few available software.

My mistake, the Wi-Fi works on my 4 laptops.

I tried as you suggested to stop/restart the Wi-Fi in PENetwork, but without success. And when I tried again with W10, I also had no Wi-Fi, actually the hardware Wi-Fi button was OFF on both, I don't use these PCs often; I disabled the Wi-Fi to do the 1803 update with Ethernet.

So, Wiki OK:
Sony Vaio - Intel(R) Wifi Link 5100 AGN
DELL XPS M1210 - Intel (R) Pro/Wireless 3945ABG
DELL D430 - Intel (R) Pro/Wireless 3945ABG
DELL E4300 - Dell Wireless 1510 Wireles N WLAN Mini-Card

For Hiren and UEFI, I have older PCs, over 8/10 years old, in MBR. In the past, at work, I had a PC with UEFI, Hiren worked, on a USB stick generated with I don't remember which tool in grub4dos.

ha thanks for the tests :)
So, Intel is cool then.
Well, the Wifi works well :))

EDIT: For Hiren, I'm asking this because it seems abandoned, it's like Ultimate Boot CD, it was really good but no longer maintained.
So no UEFI.

Yes, Hiren's was great, but it indeed stopped in 2012.

There are a few successors, but they're not always up to par. Like this one, I just saw that there's a new version: http://dlcboot.com/Demo.html but you would need to know Vietnamese ;-) And no azerty, just qwerty.
