Hello everyone, thank you in advance to whoever will give me a hand; here is my problem: in my XP SP2 PC’s hidden drives under Device Manager, in Hidden devices I have this with a yellow exclamation point on the link: C.ROOT\LEGACY_SERIAL\0000. First of all I would like to know if this is normal and what I should do please, could someone enlighten me please; thanks to everyone who helps.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

    I have the same problem with my laptop, an Acer TravelMate 4002WLMi, and the issue is serious: my DVD drive no longer works and the machine doesn't recognize it. Please help me.

    So 2 things before I answer you:

    1) can you write normally ( NOT LIKE THIS PEOPLE CAN'T UNDERSTAND) so that we understand? line breaks are not excluded here, you don't pay more
    2) I don't understand your problem: hidden folder or device manager?

    Hello,

    I have almost the same problem as Mr. Caps-Lock.

    When I go to the Device Manager, displaying hidden devices, I have a ! in front of 'serial'.

    Looking at the error page, it notes that the device is either not present or not identifiable. In the details, the full name of the device is: ROOT\LEGACY_SERIAL\0000

    One detail that may be useful: My computer (a 2-year-old laptop) crashed today, black screen and inability to power back on for the entire day. While investigating the cause of this failure, I discovered that the only thing detected as defective was the serial file.

    I also have, in the computer management, a whole page of Service Control Manager errors noted (the 10 days of error backups are filled with this file)

    Thank you to whoever can tell me what to do to prevent these little issues from happening again.

    For me, it was because the motherboard was defective, I had to buy a new PC (800 euros in repairs). I hope your problem isn't related to that as well, but there's a good chance it comes from there too.

    In my case, yes it was an official Windows, provided with the computer.
    The motherboard was dead, I’ve swapped to a different laptop since.
