Impossible to change languages and subtitles on DVD

Hello,
I received a DVD from abroad, original language English, Dutch subtitles. With the display button I access several languages, so I removed the subtitles and chose French for the menu, the DVD, etc. and then pressed "enter" to confirm. But when I click on PLAY again, it speaks English! If I click on AUDIO, I see 1 - ENG (= English) but clicking again doesn’t change anything. On the display as soon as the DVD starts, I only see PLAY and subtitles DUTCH or OFF. No other menu.
I don’t know what to do anymore. The foreign seller assures me that with the display menu I can change the languages and subtitles (many) but nothing happens, yet it seems to be saved as it is checked.
I had the same issue with a used DISNEY disc that I wanted to check; it took me an incredible amount of time to manage to put it in French, and I have no idea what I did for it to finally work.
Now the DVD is new and my DVD player, an LG, is only three months old.
Do you have any idea? Thanks

THANK YOU for replying so quickly! In fact, there is no "languages" box on the back. The summary is in English, then there is the 16:9 box, followed by "TAAL: engels," which means "language: English," the same for the subtitles (nderlands) and then the genre of the movie and Dolby Digital.
Nothing else on the cover. But on the DVD itself, when you go to display, there are plenty of languages, and I can easily check French and "uncheck" the subtitles box (that works, but not if I want French subtitles).
At the very bottom of the cover (and on the disk itself), you can see the number 6 in white in a red circle; I'm not sure if that helps.
Thanks again!
