Hello everyone in the community,
I have read this discussion carefully https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-34308304-comment-passer-de-mac-os-10-6-8-a-une-version-superieure and I am in the same situation, 1 year later and with a different Mac.
In addition to becoming very slow, my version is no longer compatible with the tools I use daily, and I have also lost Bluetooth ..
How can I upgrade to High Sierra? Knowing that according to the App Store, I need OS X 10.8.
My MAC
- Identifier: MacBook 5,1
- Processor name: Intel Core 2 Duo
- Processor speed: 2GHz
- Number of processors: 1
- Total number of cores: 2
- Level 2 cache: 3MB
- Memory: 2GB
- Bus speed: 1.07 GHz
- SMC version (system): 1.40f2
- Boot ROM version: MB51.007D.B03
- Serial number: W8919SM88QR
- Hardware UUID: 6BE99B40-A753-54F5-B61B-899401B94B29
Thanks in advance,
Pauline

Hello,
On Mac OS X 10.6 or Mac OS X 10.7 (Snow Leopard and Lion), to upgrade to High Sierra, you normally need to go through OS X 10.11 (El Capitan), as indicated and explained on this Apple page:
https://www.apple.com/fr/macos/how-to-upgrade/#hardware-requirements
This upgrade to El Capitan is free.
However, if you create a USB installation drive and boot from that drive, then completely erase the disk before installation (you will lose everything if nothing is backed up elsewhere), you can then install High Sierra directly:
https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/48394-creer-une-cle-d-installation-os-x-high-sierra
That said, in any case, with only 2 GB of RAM, you should not upgrade to a version higher than Mac OS X 10.7 - The Mac will be so slow that it will be practically unusable.
You need at least 8 GB for it to run properly.
This Mac, according to the provided information, should be a Macbook from late 2008. It accepts 8 GB of memory.
The installation of the 2 x 4 GB RAM modules is explained here:
https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/HT1651
Best regards.

Always indicate your system configuration completely - exact model of computer, exact version of OS.

I then bought 8 GB of RAM and installed El Capitan without any difficulties and didn't proceed to High Sierra! It's working very well!
Have a good weekend,
