Appearance of Chinese characters in OpenOffice 4

Hello everyone.

Recently, I installed OpenOffice 4 on my HP mini computer. My problem is such that when I create written documents and save them using this software, when I reopen them a bit later, Chinese characters appear in the document and replace all the "é", "à", "ô" characters, etc.

I try to delete these characters manually on the keyboard, but they keep reappearing.

Could someone explain to me what is going wrong? Could it be a virus?

Thank you very much.

Hello Dubcek, thank you for your response.

The font was originally Calibri, which I have since changed to Cambria.

However, I would like to stick with Cambria. I don’t really want to change the font.

It all seems quite complicated to me... What is OOo anyway?
Isn't there something simpler? I don't want to be a bother, but I'm just a beginner...

      OO for OpenOffice
you just need to rename the directory C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice to C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Roaming\OldOpenOffice
so that OO creates a new one

the AppData folder is a hidden folder. The easiest way to make it appear:

Actually, I don't think there's any way to do that with my computer, because when I try to rename the directory, access is blocked. I believe my computer doesn't have that function.

However, I changed my file to ODF, just to see if that would solve the problem. And, miracle, all the Chinese characters have disappeared.

Thank you very much for your help; this will definitely be useful for me from now on and in the future. I apologize for bothering you.

A very big thank you again.
