Hello,
I am looking to change the permissions for the "file system" so that it is not read-only but allows for read and write access.
I am new to Linux and I don't know the appropriate command.
Have a good day,
(I am using Edubuntu)

terminal: sudo nautilus >>> password >>> the explorer is launched in root mode >>> Right-click on the media, properties, permissions... Set the owner to "your name" and set the rights to something like read write and all that, confirm the changes and launch Nautilus in user mode to check. (ubuntu logo, shortcuts, the desired disk. You should be able to do whatever you want from then on.
:D
The procedure is good for all disks - ntfs, reiserfs, ext3, ext4 and blah.... Internal or external disks via usb or otherwise. USB flash drives, mp3 players and cameras, and all devices that mount as logical disks :P :)
Have fun :D
(it makes me so happy to bypass my mitten methods proposed everywhere :P )

THANK YOU
rather than sudo nautilus

I am using Ubuntu 12.04, and despite the procedure mentioned above, I can't change the permissions of my son's camera. Therefore, I can't see the folders. The device is mounted, but it appears empty!
Nautilus opens an explorer window. I select the device, then I open the properties window, but nothing is modifiable.
