GSM locked and hard reset does not work

Hello everyone.
I am a quadriplegic person and for convenience reasons and because it’s very practical, a friend's son gave me his old smartphone, a ONEPLUS (a 3, I think), but he forgot his unlock pattern (I promise it’s not stolen). Knowing a bit about it, I wanted to do the usual hard reset (volume + power) but nothing happens as usual; it always starts normally on its locked screen. Could you help me so that I can finally use it? Thank you so much.
