Hello,
I would like to download a movie on CanalVOD, but it seems that it is only possible to do so by renting it: https://vod.canalplus.com/
What is the point of buying the movie then?
What is the format of the downloaded videos?
Furthermore, are the HD videos on this site in 720p or 1080p?
Thank you for your help.

Hello,
CanalVOD allows you to either rent a movie or purchase it after creating an account. See the terms and conditions, particularly chapter IV and sales terms on the site for more information.
Renting: this is a limited viewing offer on the device on which the order was placed, unless otherwise specified, for a limited time set at the time of ordering.
Purchasing: the download is permanent (unlimited viewing time), visible only on 3 computers (streaming), or purchase on DVD or Blu-ray disc.
I think that to watch the videos, the Canal Player must be installed on the device along with the downloadable download module available on their site. The content is also digitally protected, so it seems that you cannot transfer it from one device to another or put it on a USB stick or disk.
The benefit of purchasing via download is simply to be able to watch the video without time limits as many times as you want and on different devices, up to a maximum of 3.
The videos are streamed in 720p: http://assistance.canalplay.com/questions/1417608-qualite-site
There are multiple VOD offers available, so compare them before committing... if you wish.
Best regards

Thank you very much. However, I would like to be able to back up the downloaded files on a USB key for example, but it seems that this is not possible?
- Apparently, this is not feasible, but since I don't know this service, get in touch with them to find out more, on the condition of being a customer: http://espaceclientcanal.canal-plus.com/contacts/pid917-nous-contacter.html
See this discussion from 2012: http://assistance.canalplay.com/questions/287978-comment-puis-je-enregistrer-des-films-sur-une-clef-usb-pour-les-regarder-sur-un-lecteur-je-suis-abonnee-a-canal
I don't know if there are VOD sites that allow you to purchase and then transfer your video to a USB stick.
The Utopia cinemas offer something like that, but they are not everywhere, and their programming is rather focused on "art films": http://www.cinemas-utopia.org/
Additionally, since depending on the sites, it is proposed to watch on different supports (PC, Tablet, Smart TV, others) purchase or rental, I only see, from the perspective of the sites, the interest in offering this as it would open the door to "piracy" by essentially forcing them to remove the DRM.
Just a general word to finish: you never actually buy a film on DVD or Blu-ray in a store, you only acquire the right to view it; the rights to the intellectual property and the copyright of the said film remain the property of the studio, producer, director, etc.
