Hello,
I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 with Safari version 5.0.6 (5533.22.3). I am getting increasingly stuck on the Internet, mainly when I switch to https, Safari doesn't recognize the site and blocks everything. I was just informed by a website that I will no longer be able to access it from April 2018, as my browser is outdated. I tried to install another one, but I really don't know anything about it, and it didn't work.
My question is: do I need to change my computer (I have no issues with word processing and photos) or can a specialist – I reach out to FNAC when I get "stuck" – solve the problem with recent software?
Thank you for your response, knowing that it will be unbiased... unlike a salesperson!

Hello,
Https sites are considered secure and security methods evolve year by year.
Your Mac is running a very old system (10.5 was sold by Apple between 2007 and 2009), and as Apple no longer makes any updates for it, it's clear that the security aspect is somewhat outdated in Safari.
Question: What is the exact model of your Mac?
To answer, you can use the serial number of your Mac:
- Open the “Apple -> About This Mac” menu.
- A window opens with the following information from top to bottom:
- Click on the version number: you should now see “Build ...”
- Click again on “Build ...”: your Mac's serial number will appear.
- Note it down
- Use this link Apple: Technical Specifications
- Type your Mac's serial number in the “Search Tech Specs” box
- Click on the blue “Search” button
Once you have the Apple web page that describes your Mac, please give us the link to it, and we can tell you more about your Mac's upgrade capabilities.

Hello,
Your mid-2007 Mac Mini can be upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and even Mac OS X 10.7 Lion , both of which are still available from Apple (click on the blue bold text: these are links)
This will give you access to a "newer" and more secure version of Safari.
However, before changing your system, you need to take some precautions such as:
- backing up your data
- checking if your printer or scanner or other peripherals will be supported by the new Mac OS X system you choose
- checking if your applications "essential for your daily life" exist in Mac OS X Lion version
Indeed, if the manufacturer of your printer has not developed a driver for Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Lion, then you would have to purchase another printer.
The same goes for your word processing and photo applications; if they are not compatible with Snow Leopard or Lion, you will need to buy an update or even a completely new version.
This can thus incur costs that should be estimated before proceeding. These costs will likely be lower compared to buying a newer Mac, but they need to be analyzed.
We can help you with all this if you can provide us with more details about the previously mentioned items: make and exact model of your printer, scanner, etc.

Hello Ritchi,
I just want to thank you; thanks to all the parameters you gave me, I was able to do some research at FNAC and online. As a result: I am going to buy a small laptop with Windows 10, which is quite sufficient for me at the moment. But I might need "howitworks" at the beginning!
I hope going back to work wasn't too difficult.

Hello,
Thank you for the news.
Regarding the purchase of the PC and the possible help at the beginning, I won't be able to do much other than explain the basics of Windows, and even then, I've never used Windows 10: at the office, we're on Windows 7.
Looking forward to seeing you again on a CCM forum.
