Hello,

Since this morning, I can't open Safari on my macOS Sierra, version 10.12.6 on my MacBook.
When I click on the icon, nothing happens, Safari doesn't "bounce" in the dock, while all the other applications work.
I downloaded ONYX, cleaned... but still nothing! If someone can help me. Luckily, I had Google Chrome which allows me to write to you.

My problem is solved! A colleague, a librarian like me, told me to simply reinstall the Mac OS Sierra system... and it worked! There you go, if this can help someone, but thanks to those who did their best to help me: Dédé, Francis, and SBEATX!

  Glad to know that you found a solution. As for me, I updated from iOS Sierra to iOS High Sierra, and I come to the same conclusions as you: Safari is now working normally.

the preference files for Safari are not directly located in the personal library, but in the Preferences subfolder:

On the other hand, you should try to rebuild the launch services with Onyx, not just cleaning:

Throw everything away except the Bookmarks.plist file, which is located in the Safari folder, in case you have any bookmarks that you want to keep. You just need to place this file back in its location in the new Safari folder.

If you do not want to keep or recover any bookmarks, throw everything away.

  Here I’ve thrown everything away, including Bookmarks.plist; I’ll redo the bookmarks.
  Well, now I’m downloading ONYX, but should I go on Chrome and take the first ONYX, or is there a specific one for Mac? Thanks.

  Onyx is specific to each version of Mac OS. It is essential to use the version that corresponds to the installed OS X version:

  Here is the translation: I downloaded Onyx for my macOS Sierra 10.12, I cleaned, swept, polished... anyway, I rebuilt it... the computer restarted (asking me if I wanted to load ""restart" something like that, which comes from Onyx, I said yes), then I tried to open Safari... without success!! I believed in it! Well, I saw that Safari is still in the trash since I put it there before installing Onyx!! What should I do? Thank you very much for your help! Come on, I still believe!!

  Is Safari in the trash?? Applications should stay in the Applications folder...

  It must be the Safari folder in the trash, not the application itself which is protected... the trash can be emptied.
  
  Furthermore, it would be good to apply the combined update 10.12.6, even if the system is already up to date:

Hello Bebellezaza,

Like you, I'm not very skilled either, but I managed to get Safari working again.
Method:
You need to find the CONTENTS file, and inside there are two files:
Safari and SafariForWebKitDevelopment.
Copy these two files and paste them on the desktop.
And there you go, Safari works.

The only thing that doesn't work is when an internet link is included in an email; it doesn't open; I then have to copy it and paste it into the Safari browser.

I will add various photos to illustrate my point; if anyone has a better solution.

As for using Onyx, I did everything, my hard drive and cleaning are all okay; I haven’t tried MalwareBytes as a result.

  I had already tried this way of opening Safari, but directly without moving the files, it works, but I didn't suggest it because it goes through the Terminal. If you exit the Terminal while using it, Safari closes... not a clean solution...

  Throw away these files, and again,
  empty the trash in safe mode.

  I just looked through my files, and oh surprise, I have more than 2: Onyx and Flashplayer, nothing else! I must have deleted everything, cleaned up a bit too much! So I can't find the "CONTENTS" folder.

Hello,

It might be adware, installed without your knowledge, during an unexpected click on a web page!
Try installing MalwareBytes and run a check on the Mac.
If that’s not the case, come back and let us know what's going on.

  You installed it, so you know how to do it, you double-click on the file to open it, just like any software, and you'll see a choice window to scan your computer.

  Try to throw away the Safari preferences file, which is located in your user library/preferences folder and should be named "com.apple.safari.plist"
  
  To access your user library, from the Finder/Go menu, holding down the option (alt) key will reveal it in the drop-down menu.

  Hello, I just went to Finder, then Library, and there are a lot of blue folders (am I in the right place?). I deleted the blue folder "safari" because there was no folder "com.apple.safari.plist", only a folder named "com.apple.nsurlsessiond", which started the same way! Well, now I'm going to see if it works!

Good evening,

I have exactly the same problem as you since yesterday; it's a 2012 MacBook Pro running MacOS Sierra Version 10.12.6.
I ran Onyx and its counterparts, everything is fine, no defects.
The Mac has been updated since last summer and until now everything was working well.
Safari works fine in Guest session.
I don't understand where the problem could come from.
Thank you for your help, in the meantime I have Google Chrome next to me.

  Hello, it's not working, I downloaded Total V, something like that, and Malwarebytes appears, but I can't open it once installed; the computer shuts down to restart. Unlike Sbeatx, my guest account doesn't open Safari.
  Can I (but I didn't see the option) download Safari from Google Chrome?? Thanks.
