Dummy file on USB drive cannot be deleted.

Hello.
I'm not sure I'm in the right category of the forum.
I transferred photos from my computer to a USB stick (copy-paste). But when I opened my USB today, I had a bad surprise: all the photos I saved the day before yesterday have disappeared and instead there are Dummy files of 0 KB (one in each folder). I can't delete them, it says: "unable to delete file: cannot read from the file or the diskette source."
However, the photos I copied last week are still there. Could I have picked up a virus in the meantime?
