Good evening,
I have a problem with my Excel work table, I had it all nice in table format, and after copying and pasting so much... it's a mess with the colors. I've tried converting it to a range, changing the fill back to white, putting it back into a table, clearing the rules, but nothing works, the colors stay.
Help!

Thanks in advance
Jérôme

Have you tried selecting all the problematic cells and doing Clear Formats?
(It's in the Editing group on the Home tab, Clear: dropdown menu, choose Clear Formats.)
    Good luck!

Good evening, and thank you both for your help. Both of your responses have been interesting to me. I was able to easily solve the problem thanks to you. If I may offer my opinion, Raymon Pentier, it's true that when I read your response at first, I felt that "judgment" regarding the tone used, even though I wasn't offended by it^^. I'm weighing in on the question simply so that you know that ButteDuLac wasn't completely wrong in making that 'remark', and please understand that I’m not giving my opinion to support one side or the other, but perhaps just so that you can better understand each other. I really appreciate the help I find on this forum thanks to you; thank you for sharing your knowledge, it helps me on both a professional and personal level.

As everyone has expressed themselves and I think there's no need to add more, I would ideally like ALL to learn from the various remarks and feelings.

Our friend has found his solution, so I will close this topic.

    Hello Jérôme.

It’s by accumulating approximate and disruptive manipulations that you completely sabotage a job...
Press [ctrl+A] to select the entire sheet, then Cell Format / Fill / No Color.
NB white is also a color!

And delete the rules while the entire sheet is selected...
It’s nice, retirement! Especially in the Antilles... :-)

Your solution will remove the fill, but if jerome334s also wants to get rid of font colors, borders, etc., it’s more effective to clear the formats, as I suggested.
Thank you Mr. Pentier, you often help people in this forum, but I find your tone judgmental... not all of us have your extensive knowledge and infallible science!

Yes, I already know your opinion of me.

In this case, Jérôme clearly specified " it's a mess with the colors ... the colors stay there "; so I don't have to worry about his font, borders, case, embellishments, alignments ...
So, if he didn't want to change it, your suggestion would be a real disaster for him ...
This is not a judgment, but an observation!

        Hello Mr. Pentier,

Please don’t take offense. I’m simply asking you to pay attention to your tone, which at times, for a beginner, can come across as hurtful! And for someone who is just trying to help, it’s even insulting!

Clarification: a font and a border can also have a "color". And jerome334s doesn’t specify where these colors are applied. He says it’s a mess, that he has recolored the fillings to white, converted to a range, and deleted the rules, so that leads me to assume there are border or font colors, because he still has some colors (although you and I know that "white" is a color, visually, if all the fillings are white and his spreadsheet is in standard theme, the other cells should also appear white, so visually, it shouldn’t look like a "mess"!) So yes, it is possible to assume he has remaining colors in borders and fonts. One had to read the question in its entirety.

Moreover, there’s no need to talk about alignments and case... by removing formats, there will be uniformity across everything. Afterwards, if he wishes, he can reapply the number format (or other) he wants, but there will be no more colors, because that’s what he wants!

If my suggested solution doesn’t please you, there’s no need to be disrespectful. It wasn’t anything untimely or approximate! This function (which I teach, by the way) doesn’t exist for nothing in Excel! And there’s absolutely nothing " catastrophic " about doing it (at worst, it can be undone!)

Having copied and pasted information from several sources, it’s probably not just the "fill color" that differs!

I hope you are enjoying your retirement. As for me, I don’t have that pleasure. I’m still working, so I don’t have much time to waste on the subject.

I hope that despite everything, jerome334s has managed to find his solution!

        Best regards!

And by the way, to clear the rules, there's no need to select the entire sheet... just click on Clear Rules from the Entire Sheet!
But one must ensure that this is really what he wants to do. He might just want to clear them for a specific range (that's why I suggested he select the relevant cells before doing anything!)
        No hard feelings! ;)

Dear friend Jérôme, it is indeed you who explained
" and after all the copying and pasting ... I've converted it to a range, reset the fillings to white, turned it back into a table, erased the rules, nothing works "?
So I must warn you " It is by accumulating approximate and untimely manipulations that one completely sabotages a job ",
because it is a fact I have often observed with my employees when I was a manager, and with my interns when I was a trainer.
This is absolutely not a judgment, just a statistical observation, and also a warning, but which you are not obliged to follow ...

And when, in a discussion, I reply to Jérôme, I really do not appreciate that ButteDuLac interjects to qualify the tone of my message, which is neither his prerogative nor, above all, his competence. He should just try to answer your question, without worrying about how I am trying to answer it!
I have no desire or need to bear a grudge or fuel a sterile controversy, but I absolutely want to set things in their context and individuals in their place.

It would be interesting for me to know what solution you ultimately applied that gave you satisfaction.

      Mr. Pentier,

Your last sentence says a lot about your level of maturity!
It doesn't matter what he used, the important thing is that he got what he wanted.
Your solution wasn't bad, nor was mine. It was all a matter of interpretation of his question and his problem. It's not a competition! This forum is for mutual assistance and sharing knowledge, not for pedantry and judging those who do not have an innate understanding but are modest enough to admit it!

As for your belief that I interfered in something that didn't concern me... first of all, at the outset, as jerome334s said, I simply thought I would defend someone who was unjustly criticized (because yes, it was a judgment and not a statistical observation!), I'm sorry, but you have no idea of my skills, so you cannot judge whether it was within my abilities to point out that you had an inappropriate tone. In any case, this is about human skills, here, about savoir-vivre and ethics!

Then, when I read your comment, addressing me: “So, if he didn’t want to touch it, your suggestion would be a real disaster for him...”, I had to understand that your comment about “untimely and approximate manipulations” was aimed more at me than at jerome334s, and at that point, I felt even more justified in giving you my opinion. (By the way, I don’t see at all what the disaster is in erasing formats in Excel... you and I definitely have a different definition of what a disaster is!)

Know that if you like to boast about supervising interns and staff, without stooping to such baseness by spreading my resume, I would tell you that you may be underestimating what the people around you -- virtually or in real life -- can bring in terms of experience. It’s a pity! You are surely missing out on wonderful opportunities to learn!

Just one last comment to finish, in French, there is an unwritten rule related to politeness when addressing people you do not know, which is the use of the formal you. Thank you for considering this!

      Hello,

This will be my last word:

      “Humility
It may happen that some users send messages that do not directly answer the question or propose solutions that do not seem appropriate to you. In this case, it is good form to provide your opinion on the subject, without violently rejecting the previous proposal. In general, courtesy is advised on the forum.”
