Unable to reopen an Excel sheet embedded in Word

Hello,
I want to clarify right away that the bug is well-known and widely discussed on forums in both English and French. It appears in several versions of Office and under various versions of Windows. Weeks of research, with the help of friends, have yielded no results. Nobody has found a solution. The responses on blogs have not resolved anything.
To reproduce the bug: open Word, write a few words, go to Insert, choose to insert an Excel sheet. In the Excel sheet opened in Word, enter a few numbers and perform an addition. Click anywhere in the Word document, the Excel sheet becomes inactive and you can continue writing in Word. So far, nothing unusual.
Now click on the Excel sheet, it becomes active again and you can modify the numbers. Click anywhere in Word and the Excel sheet becomes inactive again. Save your Word document with the Excel sheet and exit. Open the Word file you just created and click on the Excel sheet. It won’t open anymore. A bogus message informs you that the program used to create this object is Excel and that it is not installed on the computer.
What can I say, I've tried everything, the advanced options in Word and Excel, the repair of Office and Windows. To top it all off, if I open the Word document in question with Open Office's word processor, there is no issue. According to some forums, users have even changed their version of Office and still kept the same problem.

Here it is, I've found it! There is a tool reserved for professionals published by Microsoft. The portable version (no installation required) is called WinToolsNet Premium portable v 7.2.1. Not to be put into everyone's hands. Make a backup of the system before proceeding.
Run the exe file and scan the registry by checking all options in the settings. Be careful, delete everything the tool has found.
Next, go to the Tweak UI menu and check restore all the proposed broken associations.
And the links are restored like on the first day.

Don't blame Word or Excel: It's you who didn't read everything...
"A bogus message tells you that the program used to create this object is Excel and that it is not installed on the computer". This is incorrect: The message, which is not bogus at all, but of the utmost importance, precisely says:
"The program used to create this object is Excel. This program is not installed on your computer or it is not responding. To modify this object, you need to install Excel or check that the Excel dialog boxes are closed".
If, while you are working on the Word document, there is an Excel workbook open with a task in progress,

like an entry not yet validated in a cell for example

, that blocks access!
Make sure you don’t have any pending validation entries, or more radically, close the other Excel workbooks, and everything will work perfectly!

...and thank you for responding so quickly to my question. Of course, I closed all the applications. I even shut down the PC and restarted it to then open the Word document containing the Excel sheet. Word opens normally, but if I click on the Excel sheet, I get the infamous message.
As for the numerous forums addressing the topic, just type "Unable to open Excel Worksheet in Word document" into Google or the infamous message that I call bogus in French. I should point out that if I send the Word file in question to a friend, he can open the Excel sheet in the Word document without any problem.

Indeed, it seems to be a compatibility issue between the version of your operating system, the version of MS Office that was used to create the file, and the version of MS Office being used to modify that same file...

You only have to apply the method you found:
"if I open the Word document in question with the Open Office word processor, there is no problem"!

The exact message is:
"The program used to create this object is Excel. This program is not installed on this computer. To modify this object, you need to install a program capable of opening it." This is why I consider it to be rubbish.
I have been working with the same Office and the same W7 pro since 2013. Since then, I have been using Word documents that contain an Excel sheet. For example: salary sheet for the cleaner, medical expense claims to health insurance, etc.
This problem arose a few weeks ago. I suspect an automatic update. When I see the number of users who have had this problem for years, I think that Microsoft is speeding up its downfall. I really want, as you advise, to turn my back on all their products.
