Hello,
I had to reinstall Windows 10 recently, along with Office Pro Plus 2016, after changing a hard drive in my PC.
While I used to be able to save my Outlook 2016 messages in "Outlook Message Format," I am now unable to do so. All the existing files have been converted to "Outlook Unicode Message Format" with the .msg extension, as if they had been saved in that format, and all the ones I want to save are being saved in the same way. Therefore, I cannot read them when I click on them, which is quite frustrating.
Does anyone have a solution to suggest so that I can return to the previous situation and, more importantly, read my old messages? Thank you in advance.

Thank you, madmyke, for taking the time to respond to me. I am not a great specialist in micro-computing and I may have expressed myself poorly. I was indeed referring to saving a message on my hard drive outside of Outlook, which allows for the backup of a conversation, and not within the messaging system.
After consulting the Microsoft site, I read, but without truly believing it would solve my problem, that in order to read these .msg files, you needed to open them with an earlier version of Outlook by following the path indicated by Windows and checking the box "Always use this application to open .msg files," which I was unable to do with my version of Office 2016. So I downloaded an older version of Office, and thus, I was able to request the opening of .msg files with either Outlook 2016 or Outlook 2010 and everything worked well, all the old files automatically transforming into "Outlook Message Format" just as I had them before. All's well that ends well.
Thank you again for your explanation.
Best regards.

Hello
Not very clear.
The msg format is indeed a Microsoft Outlook format but used when exporting/saving a single message, outside of "Outlook", for example on the desktop.
Otherwise, your messages/calendar, etc., are saved together in a .PST file which contains your Outlook data.
If you have reinstalled and you had backed up this PST file, you just need to recreate your account and import the old content. (There are procedures available online).
If you haven't regularly backed up the Outlook PST before changing the disk or if this file is no longer available, there is no way to go back.
This is the general operation, so your explanation seems unclear to me.
Best regards
