Hello,
I took a photo with my smartphone and one with my digital camera. I converted both of them to AVI format.
The software doesn't want to read them. The video playback window is striped and the message indicates:
video unavailable, unable to find 'vids:MP42' decompressor
Thank you for your help,
FM

Hello,
For Avimeca, videos need to be converted in most cases.
On my end, with AviMéca v.3, XviD is recognized but DivX (well, I can open it in AviMeca but I can't do anything more), as well as "uncompressed" formats like Lagarith, Huffyuv, Cineform (GoPro), or Helix YUV. DV also works but the image resolution must be 720x576 in PAL. Be careful, using these codecs makes the videos significantly larger, except for XviD!
To illustrate my point, I took a DivX file that was originally 27 MB and converted it with the various codecs, and they all resulted in sizes between 400 MB and 2 GB (!) except for Cineform, which only produced 150 MB...
These codecs often need to be installed manually to be usable in certain software like VirtualDub, but Avidemux or XMedia Recode, or even others, might offer some of them by default.
Best regards
