Hello hannanah,
I believe you are on QWERTY; press < Alt >< Shift > to switch
to AZERTY; Shift = Maj (just above Ctrl); you should
then find (among other things) your exclamation mark « ! ».
If your problem is resolved, please let us know,

Best regards. :)

Unfortunately not, I have already switched from QWERTY to AZERTY and now this problem has been added - THE SHIFT KEYS ARE INVERTED: Instead of having the numbers, I have the characters below. The "+ AND =" key at the bottom right gives me § and ! The hyphen - _ key at the top right gives me + and = (normally under 6 and 8) etc. It's a hassle! So the problem is not resolved. And the space after the punctuation mark writes "French" but does not create a space!!! Thanks to those who can help me and to those who are looking into the issue...
