Hello, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Cyanogenmod 12.1 and TWRP, and I want to switch back to an official Samsung ROM. I have downloaded the ZIP file of the ROM, but I have some questions:
- The ZIP only contains a .tar.md5 file (unlike the CM one which contains subfolders and other files); will I be able to flash it with TWRP (since I don't have a PC handy, so no Odin)?
- Will reverting to an official firmware remove ROOT access and the TWRP custom recovery?
If you could clarify this for me, I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance and have a great day.

I rooted my phone to switch to Cyanogenmod and now I want to go back (temporarily) to the official version to check something, how do I reset to factory settings? When I reset, it still leaves me with CM.

You can't, I told you... you flash again with Odin on PC...
then nothing prevents you from rooting your phone while remaining on Samsung firmware, okay? When you have rooted your phone and installed your TWRP AND YOU WANT TO CHANGE ROM, TWRP allows you to back up your Samsung ROM, then you can test alternative ROMs and if you're not convinced by those ROMs, restore your Samsung firmware or another one because TWRP CAN DO IT... you still need to inform yourself a bit about the features of your TWRP recovery... so for now, you reflash via Odin on PC.
that's how I do it when I test ROMs... I back up with TWRP one or two ROMs that suit me, and if I try another one that doesn't suit me, I restore the old one with TWRP...
