Hello,
I just bought a Canon MG 3650 printer and when I print a photo saved in the pictures folder on my PC, the print quality is very poor compared to the quality of the photo on the PC. However, if I print directly from the internet, the print is fine.
Every print that comes out of my PC is poor; I tried with another PC and got the same result.
Is there a setting I need to adjust?
Thank you for your insights.

Hello Alex840,
In your message #4, you wrote: "I find myself with a
new printer that prints 10 times worse than my old one that is 12 years old!! Great technology!". If the problem really comes from your Canon printer, then
I totally agree with you!
But I have an idea that might mean it's not to blame at all, poor thing! Because in your initial message you wrote: "However,
if I print directly from the internet, the print is correct".
So I think your photo on the internet is in very high resolution,
and with a 32-bit color model (for example), hence a very good quality photo, which appears as it is when printed.
But then, when you saved it on your PC, in your "Pictures" folder, you must have done it in a lower resolution and
with a 16-bit color model (for example) => the quality of
your photo was necessarily degraded in resolution and color rendering! But if that’s not it, I authorize you to go visit the recycling center to retrieve your 12-year-old printer;
unfortunately, given the time that has passed, I think you might need to seek help from the best specialists in archaeology, and even then! It probably ended up crushed! You can console yourself by thinking that with a bit of luck, some of its parts may have been recycled...
If I’m right, the solution is obvious: go back to the website where you saw your photo, then save it on your PC in the same resolution and color model.
If your problem is resolved, please go to the top of the page
to click on "Mark as resolved".
Best regards. 😊

Hello,
This may depend on how the printer was installed!
Are you using the Windows 8.1 operating system to manage it? If so, which version is it, 32 or 64 bits?
Regards.

Hello,
In fact, the printer is installed on the desktop (Vista) via a wired connection and is also connected via Wi-Fi to the laptop (Windows 8.1)
Windows version 8.1 64 bits for the Sony Vaio laptop
I have used both operating systems (Vista and Windows 8.1) and I am experiencing the problem on both.

In my opinion, you should visit this PAGE to download the proposed driver and then install it on your PC(s).
However, regarding your tower, disconnect the printer and restart the PC before starting the driver installation; you will connect it as needed during the procedure.
Best regards.

This page actually provides the driver that is on the DVD included with the printer, which I have already installed. I downloaded what you suggested just to be sure, and it informed me that my printer was indeed installed.
I read online that this might be due to incorrect settings on my screens, but is that possible, and what should I adjust on the screen? On my tower's screen, I changed the colors to maximum, and the result is the same. I tested brighter colors and a higher contrast in the printer's settings, but nothing changes, as if the printer is not recording any adjustment information.
I have a brand new printer that prints 10 times worse than my old one that's 12 years old!!
Great technology!
Thanks for your help with all of this; if you have other solutions, I'm all ears! I went to the store where I bought this printer, and no one knows what the cause of this problem is.

No, whether you act on the screen resolution or not, printing from the printer has nothing to do with this.
Have you performed a nozzle cleaning, for example, or an alignment of the print heads?
If you have correctly installed the printer from a support, you should have the necessary software to initiate this procedure, in principle.

Hello albkan,
I know that this is due to a setting that needs to be adjusted and not my printer, but it's frustrating to have new equipment and not be able to configure it...
So here are the properties of the image in my images folder:
And here are the properties of the same image from the internet:
I notice that on the internet the pixels are less important than when my image is in my picture folder and moreover the image in my picture folder is of good quality, very sharp, identical to the image taken from the internet.

Hello Alex840,
According to your 1st screenshot, the photo saved on your PC, in the
"Pictures" folder is at a resolution of 640 × 480 pixels, 72 ppi (pixels
per inch), with a color depth of 24 bits.
According to your 2nd screenshot, the original photo on the internet is
588 × 441 pixels, and neither the ppi nor the color depth
are indicated! So you can't compare these
last 2 parameters!
We can only compare the resolution, and I am really very surprised
to find that the original photo has a slightly lower resolution
than the one saved on your PC! Usually, it's the other way around! But
maybe the slight enlargement of the photo has caused
a distortion and/or pixelation that makes the image on the PC worse,
and therefore prints less well. Also consider that, for example, on Google Images, many photos appear very sharp and of really
great quality as they are, but when you click on them to view them larger, the quality is much worse! I think
this phenomenon is happening with your photo. If so, I don't think there is a way to remedy it; even if you use an image editing software (like PhotoShop or PhotoFiltre)!
With the URL provided in your 2nd screenshot, I was able to very easily find
your photo on the internet; I then saved it on my PC; according to the image properties (Details tab): 640 × 480 pixels,
72 ppi, 24-bit colors; and I'm talking about the photo on the hard drive,
not the photo on the internet! Here it is: English Cocker; I'll let you download it and print it; I think this time, you will get the expected result; plus the satisfaction of having purchased a good Canon printer! 😉
You won't regret your old printer that was 12 years old!
And I've saved you a trip to the dump! 😉
If your problem is solved, please go to the top of the page
to click on "Mark as resolved".
Best regards. 😊
PS: If you decide to buy the English Cocker, I hope he gets along
well with your cat (the one in your profile)! If you look at the image of my
own profile, you'll see that it's totally possible! 😉
But of course, it's case by case: it all depends on everyone's character...
And one shouldn't be jealous of the other! 😉

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I downloaded and printed the cocker photo from your link and the print quality is just as poor (pale, a bit blurry, bad contrast).
I apologize, I misspoke: I took photos of two prints, one with my old printer (the good print) and the other with the Canon (the bad print).
The photo is upside down... that's also a mystery, I downloaded it the right way!
You can clearly see the difference in print quality.

Yes, it is indeed very mysterious that the photo is upside down! ????
But what is even more mysterious is that I sent you the photo
of an English cocker = a DOG and there is a CAT in your images!!! Could it be
a phenomenon of reincarnation? Did you kill the dog, who came back
from the beyond in the form of a cat? ????

Response to your message #11
Okay: so it's a LYNX; and indeed, we can clearly see
the difference in print quality! After downloading a photo,
it displays well in the right spot on the screen, as you wrote, under the image:
“I downloaded it correctly to the right place!”
So I think it's okay on the screen side (because with an image management software
like Photoshop or PhotoFiltre, you can easily rotate the image 180°
and save it as is; that said, without mentioning the print options).
Let's see on the printer side.
----------------------------------------------------
But do you print an image or photo from a window
in the Windows Explorer? Or from a software where you have opened
or imported that image or photo?
If it's the second case, from a software, what is its name? You'll need to check all the print options (settings); because there might be an option to rotate 180° that flips the image at printing; and there might also be an option for draft print mode (sometimes called economy mode): it uses less ink and therefore, of course, it affects print quality.
What I just wrote might not be options of a software you use, but options of your Canon printer itself; in this case, you'll need to check all the options (settings) of your Canon!
----------------------------------------------------
I will add a supplement, but in response to your message #17,
in order to continue at the bottom of the discussion. See you soon...
For the image of your message #11 :
Ah, seeing the more pointed ears and the wilder look, I suspected
it was a lynx, but since I wasn't sure, I still
put a cat! And after all, a lynx is just a big wild cat! It's really
the same family of felines, isn't it? 😉
To answer your questions:
1) I print in the simplest way possible from my images; I click on the photo, select print, and I have a window that offers me several formats.
It's also worth mentioning that whether I print large or very small, the quality is always just as poor.
For draft printing, I've checked that it's set to standard quality.
I tried "high" mode for printing, and nothing changes in quality.
That said, I'm off to bed!! Thank you for helping me, that's very kind.
I hope we can manage to solve this problem; otherwise, this story is a black cat lol ^_^

First read my message #18 (which is a response to your message #14),
then this one (which is a response to your message #17). We can say
that we've had a very intertwined conversation, haven't we? ???? But
we still end up connecting here (continuation of my message #16)!
==============================
In the "My Pictures" folder, you right-clicked on an image,
and in the context menu, you selected the "Print" item =>
"Print Images" window.
1) At the top, just to the right of the paper size, you can see the Quality:
it's a synonym for "Image Resolution"; I have "600 × 600",
for the English cocker photo I sent you; no other option
available, but maybe you do?
2) Just to the right, you can choose the "Paper Type" you are using:
numerous possible choices: thick paper, thin paper, luxury... and it obviously affects
the print quality.
3) Vertically, along the right edge, you have several thumbnails, one of which
is labeled "13 × 18 cm. (2)"; if you select it, it will print 2 photos per page and the photo has rotated 90° to the left;
that might be why it comes out upside down (but I doubt it); anyway, select the first thumbnail "Full Page Photo".
4) At the bottom, another setting that could affect the quality of the image
to be printed: ☑ Fit Image to Frame (checked by default);
if you uncheck it, the image will be smaller.
==============================
Next, just above the "Cancel" button, click on the blue link
Options... => "Print Settings" window, with:
☑ Improve Sharpness for Printing
☑ Show only options compatible with my printer
Make sure these 2 boxes are checked. Below, do not click
on the link "Color Management..."; you will do that as a last resort
if nothing else works, and with help from another participant, because
even for me, it's way too technical!
Click on the link just below: "Printer Properties..." =>
"Properties of your printer Canon MG3650" window; it is
therefore a specific window, different from mine since I have a
different printer; but you should have several tabs.
What I'm going to describe is therefore for my printer, but you should
have something similar.
----------------------------------------------------
My 1st tab is "Page Layout".
The 1st box is "Paper Orientation" with:
◉ Portrait
○ Landscape
☐ 180 Degrees Rotation
If I check the box:
☑ 180 Degrees Rotation
the print comes out upside down, and for your Canon settings,
you'll probably find the same option checked; when you uncheck it, it will print correctly again!
----------------------------------------------------
On my 2nd tab "Paper," I have among other options:
"Print Scaling" with a "Print Type" list including these 3 choices:
None (normal print mode)
Fit to Page (according to paper size)
Reduce/Enlarge => possibility to choose
below a zoom factor (25-400%);
thus with 200%, your image will be printed
twice as large; but the quality may be lower.
----------------------------------------------------
On my 3rd tab "Graphics," I have for "Quality":
○ Optimal
◉ Normal
○ Draft
If you have the same thing: Optimal = best quality
and Draft = worst quality.
==============================
It's unnecessary for me to go into more detail since you must see with
your own options, those of your Canon MG3650; but I hope my guidance has helped you. ????
Hello,
1) "I have '600 x 600',
for the image of the English cocker that I sent you"
I have auto or standard or custom; I tried all 3 settings but nothing works - I remain on standard
2) If I choose an option other than regular paper, I get better print quality (more color, less overexposure) but still a big contrast problem.
3) "; if you select it, it will
print 2 photos per page"
No, for me it only prints one image per sheet and the printer does not print upside down!! It’s this forum that turns the photos upside down!! lol
4) All that is fine because I knew it!! lol
☑ Improve sharpness for printing
☑ Show only options compatible with my printer
okay already checked
Here are my printer settings
Since it prints a bit better on glossy photo paper, does it use more ink? Because it takes a long time to print and I don't have shares in Canon for the ink cartridges!
Thank you all for your help

Good evening Alex,
Thank you for providing your own options.
================================
1) I can't choose anything other than the default either:
"600 × 600"; we need to know what your "Standard" corresponds to? If it’s the
Quality (image resolution) of the original photo (here 600 × 600): OK; but if
it’s less: that might be the cause of the poor print quality?
And if it’s more: the same goes if it causes distortion or pixelation!
2) It's good news that you are getting a better print with paper
other than ordinary; but for your big contrast issue, if it can be
resolved, it’s not here!
3) If it's just the forum that flips your photos upside down, that’s not a big deal!
A bit annoying, but the main thing is that it doesn't happen on your printer!
4) Sometimes, it's good to remind even the obvious: just in case you
simply forgot... 😉
================================
Tab Quick Setup
List of Current Settings:
You will surely have better print quality if you choose the item
Photo Print! I think that’s your best chance, but
maybe you’ve already tried that before?
Note: since it will consume more ink, I advise you to save
this choice before printing the 1st photo of your series of photos to print;
and after printing your last photo: don’t forget to switch back to Standard
and save again.
Note that if you do not save the Photo Print choice, you will have to
reselect it each time for every image to print, since just
after printing a photo it will revert to Standard.
But not saving is exactly what you need if you only have
one image to print, or just 4 or 5.
☐ Draft; it’s unchecked => OK
Print Quality: Standard; can you choose something else here?
(I don't think so, but just in case).
Below, don't forget to check if needed:
☑ Always print with current settings
-------------------------------------------------------
Tab Main
For Print Quality, you have: ◉ Standard and you could select
instead ○ High; but according to the "a" on the left, it's only
for text (so not for photos or images, even if they contain text).
-------------------------------------------------------
Tab Page Setup
☐ 180 degrees rotation; it’s unchecked => OK
Layout: Normal => OK
If the Photo Print item did not work, you will still have the option to
see the additional parameters accessible with the button that is
just above the OK button: "Print Options...".
================================
Finally, yes: I do believe that it will likely use more ink in glossy photo paper quality, due to the longer printing time! But nothing stops you from investing in Canon stocks; except that if you had done like me, you would have bought a color laser printer instead! 😉
A color laser printer is much more expensive than an inkjet printer
to purchase, but it costs only once.
The toner cartridges are very expensive to purchase, but they last much
longer than ink cartridges => savings over time.
-------------------------------------------------------
Of course, it also depends on the volume of printing! But since the widespread adoption of the internet, there is much less need to print: it is much easier to share files (which will be viewed on the screen).
And since I’m an eco-friendly person and want to try to preserve
Nature and the Environment, I print only when necessary.
So I actually print little, and my toner cartridges can easily last me over a year! When I told you so: savings over time!
-------------------------------------------------------
On the other hand, the cost of replacing your ink cartridges can easily
reach and even exceed 4 to 5 times the cost of the printer, which explains why inkjet printer manufacturers make huge profits from their ink cartridge sales!
Hence the success of the market for generic ink cartridges, but it’s risky if the ink quality is lower, if there is deception on the quantity (sometimes -20 to -50%!), if the printer refuses to print because
its firmware hasn’t detected the manufacturer’s ink cartridge and then blocks the printing (that can happen with HP).
================================
It seems that lynxes can only be found in America; have you ever been to the USA? 😉 And maybe even to Yellowstone?
Best regards. 😊
I confirm that this printer is going to cost me a lot because I bought it 10 days ago and I've already used up the 2 cartridges included with the machine... which is about 20 sheets in standard photo format most often and size 13x18... so 70 euros for the printer + 35 for the 2 cartridges... and I just saw that on Amazon it was 50 euros!!
And this morning I just got ripped off by Canon!! I contacted Canon on Friday afternoon, they told me they would get back to me and this morning I receive a text message with a Canon contact number starting with 08.
I'm a bit annoyed because 08 numbers are not included in my plan but oh well, if this can solve my printer problem... I call.... and before I can hang up, a voice announces that this call will be charged 1.50 euros!!!! and it hangs up immediately after!!!!
I think I’m really unlucky!!!
There are indeed some tricky ones in France...

After getting scammed like a beginner...
Received a text: "For your issue, call me back at 0892490221 Dominique, Canon expert technician. Your case number is xxxx."
I searched for this 08 number that Canon sent me and voilà, it's definitely a scam!!! But how is it that Canon has scam numbers???
Generally, I am cautious but since it came from Canon and matched my call from Friday, I let my guard down!
We live in a crazy world!!

Good evening Albakan,
Yes, yes, all your advice helped me and when I called Canon on Friday morning, they offered me absolutely no advice, just opened a file (hence my post here) and told me they would contact me next week, which is why I called Dominique too hastily this morning!!! lol!! I'll remember that one!!! lol
So I've given up on contacting Canon... because it's Canon that is behind these scams, who other than Canon knows my phone number and my specific Canon equipment issue at that precise moment?...
But still, the problem remains unsolved because aside from putting the photo paper printing option that improves colors (and using up a cartridge with each print of the cocker that comes out!) my cocker looks terrible!! the print quality is far from that of my old 12-year-old printer.
But hey, that's how it is, I have to deal with it... tomorrow I'm going to go console myself by looking for some porcini mushrooms and maybe I'll see my buddy (not that Dominique) but the lynx!!! lol
As for the starter cartridges, I suspected that the dosage is homeopathic! and about grocery shopping... having atypical hours at work, I go when there are no people... I'm a bit of a loner!
On that note... I'm selling a Canon printer, barely used lol!! ^_^
Just kidding, I'm going to take screenshots of the other settings

Good evening Alex,
I read your message in full, but I think you're confusing two things:
---------------------------------------------------
a) Type of paper: photo paper (instead of regular paper).
---------------------------------------------------
b) Quick Setup tab, Current Settings list,
item “Photo printing”. If it goes like in a):
select the photo paper and nothing else, that's a miss!
But I hope it will use a special mode for photo printing that will give you a good result (in resolution and colors).
---------------------------------------------------
In any case, I warned you that toner cartridges for laser printers last much longer than ink cartridges! So if you decide to sell your Canon inkjet, buy a color laser printer instead!
---------------------------------------------------
If you are (like me) a bit wild, then you will get along well with the lynx! Let me know if you manage to tame it! Maybe it will like your chocolate croissants? They're much better than cat food! But since the lynx is a carnivorous animal (which eats meat, therefore), I hope it won't try to eat your cat! 😉
Looking forward to your next screenshots; but it might not be necessary if the “Photo printing” mode works! See you soon 😊

"but it may not be
necessary if the 'Photo Print' mode works"
Indeed, it's a bit better but the contrast is horrible, but whatever, I give up and given the price of the cartridges I will end up printing little... so unless I find a way to print as well as my old HP, I’m just going to have to make do with my new Canon which doesn't print great!
Thanks anyway for your help.
OT: by the way, at my place, there are wolves too! but shh, the royalty wants to hunt them! lol

For your message #34 :
==============================
The 1st screenshot concerns the screen; but even if you choose the printer
from the list, I know that what you will find there is way too technical
for me! Same for the 2 following screenshots!
==============================
For your 4th screenshot:
What are you complaining about? You have 3 Canon MG3600 for the price of one!
Okay, fine, none of them can print as well as your
12-year-old printer, but still! 😉
Seriously, I also think you have one printer too many: the one whose name
ends with “ (Copy 1)”, which is your default printer (because checked).
You could try setting Printer WS as the default printer; and see
if you can print correctly. If so, you could try uninstalling
the printer (Copy 1), hoping it doesn’t mess up what’s next to it.
----------------------------------------------------
By the way, did you notice that your laptop has a problem:
there is a little yellow triangular panel, with an exclamation mark!
But I don’t know more, so it’s up to you to look into it more closely!
==============================
For your message #35 :
Really a shame that it’s just a little better!
Too bad, and good luck anyway!
By the way about the wolf, make sure to tie up Mr. Seguin’s little goat!!! 😉
Are your lynx and your wolf managing to coexist well together?
==============================
I saw that on your profile, the photo of the lynx has replaced the one of the cat!
So you must have managed to tame it! 😉 If your lynx is still
hungry, I can give it my chocolate buns, if you want? 😊

Excellent analysis, indeed, the lower resolution of the photo could be the cause of the print quality, very well spotted!
Best regards.
as Sherlock Holmes. 😉 (I was a fan of this detective) Best regards. 😊
