The sound from my turntable is not working.

Question

Hello,  I have a SL5200 Quartz turntable and the sound is not coming out through the speakers. The speakers and the amplifier are working perfectly. The platter spins and the cartridge isn't very old. For the connection, I plug in the ground and the RCA.  I don't understand. Do you have any possible solutions? Hello Andy, No, I can't hear anything coming from the speakers I'm connecting it to the Phono input, which normally works because it works with another turntable.  It's worth noting that the turntable has worked with the same amp in the past.  And the cartridge seems to be working because I can hear the friction of the diamond in the micro groove. The problem probably lies with the amplification, in my opinion. Could it be the RCA cable? Or else, what could it be?  Thank you for your help.

Hello, You should know that these turntables need to be connected to a "Phono" input of a hi-fi amplifier, which many have lacked since the CD era. Now, with the resurgence of vinyl, we can find new amplifiers with phono inputs that pre-amplify and correct the signal from the cartridge. You must have connected your turntable to a line RCA input and received a very weak and very sharp sound. If that’s not the case, there may be a connection issue at the cartridge level or a faulty cartridge. "And the cartridge seems to be working because I can hear the diamond scratching in the groove" This does not mean at all that the cartridge is functioning because it's purely mechanical, like the first phonographs that amplified that "scratching sound" through a diaphragm and a horn, without anything electric, let alone electronic. "The problem probably comes from the amplification in my opinion." But you say: "I connect it to the Phono input which works normally because it works with another turntable" So the amp is not the issue Check RCA cables, connection of the small wires from the cartridge, otherwise the cartridge is dead...;-(  I call a spade a spade *      *in French in the text
