ACTUAL DATE OF A PHOTO

Hello,

I transferred photos from a memory card to a USB drive, deleted the photos, and then took new ones on the card. The problem is that the photos on the USB drive have incorrect dates, and some even have earlier dates (taken in March 2013 but showing "January 7, 2012"). Even with Photoshop Elements 14, I can't get the correct dates.
What can I do to retrieve the actual dates? Thank you.

    You need to go to the folder and choose detail view
    click on a column and display the date of the snapshot

    tested on Windows 10 :)

      The date shown on the file explorer is the file (or copy) creation date. The actual shooting date is recorded inside the photo file (this is called metadata). It can be read with any photo management software, and most viewers.
