left mouse click, touchpad click inactive Solved

Question

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude C 640 laptop, Pentium 4, 2 GHz, and 512 MB of RAM.

Everything works perfectly except that about an hour ago, I can’t left-click with my built-in laptop mouse. I can't select anything and only the right click works. (I swapped the pointers but the left click still remains inactive)

I plugged in a PS2 mouse and then, like magic, the mouse works perfectly.

So I’m wondering what my problem is :(

How can I activate the left click of the built-in laptop mouse? Can it be activated through a manipulation in the registry?

Could it be caused by a virus? Or by the removal of a virus?

Please help me, I restarted, plugged and unplugged the external mouse, but the internal mouse of my laptop is still missing the left click...

My touchpad (internal mouse lol) no longer clicks and the left click (I have two left clicks) from the buttons doesn’t work but moves the mouse...
The touchpad doesn’t click anymore either
In device manager, the option to use the mouse device is grayed out
So I would like at least one of the three left clicks to work (two buttons + touchpad click)

If the touchpad is dirty, start with the simplest solution: if there are small particles (like crumbs), tilt the laptop to the side that isn't working. Tap repeatedly. It will eventually start working again!

Another solution: use a can of compressed air.

I go to device manager, under mouse, and the option to use the device is neither enabled nor disabled but grayed out...

Hi!!
Just wanted to let you know that I'm having the same problem with an HP dv6000... The touchpad moves the cursor fine, but I can't click (so I click with the buttons below). I've reinstalled the drivers but it hasn't changed anything. If you've found a solution since then.... (maybe a virus like you mentioned??)

Exactly the same problem.
Since this afternoon, the left click no longer works. I can move the cursor and right-click, but not left-click.
And this is the case whether I use the touchpad, the trackpoint, or the buttons underneath.

It works with an external mouse.

Does anyone have a solution?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem as you, modest. The left click button doesn't work, but the right one does!! I can move the cursor, but otherwise I can't click with the touchpad or the click, it's really too bad :s

Same here with a Gericom laptop running Windows XP. I can't take apart the keyboard to check the connections because it's still under warranty.

Problem solved !!!!

Actually, I noticed that my space bar was sticky so I took it apart. And indeed, it was very sticky underneath. Apparently, something was spilled there (argh!!!) but that's not the point.
Since I cleaned under the space bar, my left click from the mouse and the touchpad are working again. I guess it's related to the two circuit parts that can be seen underneath which have something to do with the left click.

So you can always try to take apart the space bar and clean underneath.

Hello.
Having had the same problem but not the desire or courage to dismantle my laptop, I found another solution:
Simply giving it a blast of compressed air (which can easily be found in stores like supermarkets or computer shops in the form of a small spray)... and magically, it's working again!
There must have been a loose connection due to some dirt or dust at the left-click contact and the air blast removed it... now we just have to hope it doesn't come back -_-'

Hello, I have a nearly new Asus laptop (less than a year or maybe less than 6 months) and suddenly my left click no longer works! No problem with the pad and the right click, but just with the left click. Does anyone have a solution?

Hello,

I couldn't click on my touchpad anymore, but the buttons were working. I turned the laptop upside down thinking it might be dirty too :0 but no. So I went to my control panel and clicked on the mouse icon (since the buttons were functional) and everything seemed fine. I saw the mention of Synaptics, I wasn’t sure, so I right-clicked on the icon near the clock in the right corner of my screen and changed the touch option to enable click. I must have accidentally activated that option. Everything is working now.

Here is my problem: when I first bought my used Toshiba T130-11u laptop, it was working very well except the touchpad that had some glitches from time to time. I decided to open the laptop and clean it. I injected electrical cleaning spray under the touchpad... I closed it and restarted, and now the touchpad, left and right clicks are not responding anymore, as well as the battery, Wi-Fi, etc. indicators that no longer light up. So, I am working with a USB mouse that works perfectly fine. I’m using Windows 7.

So I had the same problem, I couldn't click with the touchpad anymore I went into the mouse settings --> device settings --> settings --> touch --> check enable touch functions and it works again.
