Hello
I'm posting this message because I'm a bit lost... I have Windows 10 installed on my PC as well as Microsoft Office 2010.
When I close a Word document, it takes a while to close then it says Microsoft Word has encountered a problem. Once I click the close button, Word restarts by itself.
I only have this issue with Word and not with the other Office programs.
Do you have any idea? Thank you in advance.

Hello Virgulelaglobule,
You wrote: “When I close a Word document...” without specifying one;
so I suppose you're having this issue with all your Word documents!
So, here’s the solution I suggest:
Even if your problem only occurs with Word, I advise you
to perform a repair of your “Microsoft Office 2010” software.
To do this, you will need to select this line in the list of
installed programs on your PC and click on the button that has
the word “Repair”: either “Repair” alone, or “Modify or
Repair”, or “Uninstall, modify or repair”.
Be careful not to accidentally uninstall your software!
If your problem is resolved, please go to the top of the page
to click on “Mark as resolved”.
Best regards. 😊

Hello Virgulelaglobule,
Do the following test:
- hold down the [Ctrl] key and launch Word;
- click [Ok] to accept opening Word in safe mode.
Let us know if it's better and we'll go further if necessary.

Hello C-Claire
Thank you for your response
I ran the test in safe mode and the program closes without any issues.
I tried the same thing by creating a document, I save it, I close it, it works.
I also tried opening the document I created, it opens in "safe mode", I close it, and it works.
Can we always work in safe mode?
Thank you for your response

Virgulelaglobule,
Working permanently in safe mode wouldn't be normal, especially since it prevents you from using all of Word's features.
This mode can fix a few anomalies, particularly by disabling an outdated add-in.
So, if you haven't done so already, try restarting Word as you normally do.
If everything works fine, don't look any further.
Otherwise, as mentioned above, rename or delete the Normal.dotm file, which you should find here:
C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

Virgulelaglobule,
no problem with your questions ;-)
Rename it to "Normal 26-08-2016.dotm" for example.
Since Word cannot find "Normal.dotm", it will create a brand new one if needed.
From there, you can work normally and if everything goes well, you can delete "Normal 26-08-2016.dotm" in a while, just to tidy up.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, I'm having an issue with all Word documents, even a blank document.
I've already tried repairing the system, but it hasn't changed anything.
I also looked into the add-ins to see if there was something wrong, but I didn't find anything.
Hello Virgulelaglobule,
Just by chance, perhaps your Normal.dotm file
is corrupted? But I can't say that for sure!
I don't have any other solution, but I just saw that C-Claire
(whom I greet) replied to you; she will surely be able to advise you
better than I can!
Good luck. Best regards. 😊
Your advice is good.
In this type of problem, it's most often either an outdated and not very compatible add-in or an issue with the Normal.dotm.
The safe mode that I often recommend is a risk-free and easy test that opens Word with the minimum (so without add-ins, without customizations, etc.) and can sometimes fix things.
Renaming the Normal.dotm template, or deleting it if it hasn't been customized, remains an excellent suggestion.
Have a great day,
C-Claire
