A number doesn't mean much anymore since the "most skilled" scammers can manipulate the display of any number they want to confuse their target...
In short, it's the scenarios that should be relied upon when you have this kind of concern...

Don't think about hiding your number.....!
You can look for the number that appears in the reverse directory...there are free ones...

That said, I didn't quite understand your answer:
if a French mobile calls from "pétaouchnok," in any country, does the number that shows up on the phone receiving the call in FRANCE not indicate that the call is coming from abroad?

Well, in my opinion, it proves NOTHING AT ALL, since his number displays the same whether he is in France, in the Comoros, or in Vladivostok!
The only certain thing is that he uses a mobile phone with a subscription from France.
