Connecting two devices to a single wall Ethernet outlet

Hello everyone,

I have combed through the forum looking for an answer to my question. I found some answers, but I'm not sure I understood everything, so I'd rather explain my issue and ask again.

I have an apartment with a shared internet connection (between 6 apartments), and the livebox is located in a common room (the kitchen) for the 6 studios.
Each studio is equipped with a wall-mounted RJ45 Ethernet socket.

My question is simple: is it possible to connect two devices to this wall Ethernet socket (I heard about a "switch"), using some sort of splitter that would allow me to connect two computers, for example, without having to touch the box?

I've read several threads where people explain that a switch needs to be placed in the apartment and another switch or other "device" behind the box... But since the box doesn't belong to me, I can't really mess with it.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Hello,

You can normally plug your switch directly into the Ethernet socket.
