Connecting speakers to a PC monitor

Hello, I hope I'm in the right place for this type of question.

I connected my PC and my Xbox to each of the HDMI ports of my screen (which is a computer monitor). The sound from both devices comes out of the monitor depending on which video output I’m using, so far so good.
The real problem comes when I want to connect my speakers using the jack plug on the same monitor. Logically, since the sound comes from the monitor, if you plug in a jack to it, the sound should automatically be routed to that jack and play through the speakers. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
Moreover, the speakers work perfectly since when I connect them directly to the PC everything is fine.

I’m therefore wondering if it’s actually possible to make the connections I have in mind and if so, how?

Thank you in advance.

PS: The monitor is an Asus VX229
The speakers are Creative speakers, a standard model although a bit old.

Hello,

Have you plugged a headset into the monitor's output?

It's possible that the HDMI connection cuts off the headphone output, but that's still strange.

That said, you can connect the speakers to the PC. It shouldn't make any difference, right?

Best regards

First of all, thank you for your response.

I just tried to plug my headphones into the monitor, but the sound keeps coming out of the screen.
I also can't find anything related to sound in the screen settings.

It's true that I can use the speakers directly on the PC, which is what I'm doing for now. But since my console is connected to the same screen, I would like the sound to come out of the speakers when I choose to play.
The PC and the Xbox are both on different HDMI ports of the screen, so I just need to change the source depending on the device I want to use.
