Question

Hello,   This morning I wanted to turn on my ASUS computer which is less than a year old. I don't know if this information is helpful, but it's a device that also functions as a tablet and it runs on Windows 8. Anyway, when I turned it on, the screen was black with a message that says: ''Please select boot device'' with options ''Windows boot manager'' or ''enter setup''. Is this a reboot? That is to say, a factory reset... I'm not very good with computers and I don't even know what to do, what to select knowing that I would like to keep my data and not have to reinstall everything.  If anyone knows what this problem is due to and how to fix it, I thank you in advance, any help is welcome. Well, I ended up turning off the computer, and it started up normally. But do you know what the problem could be to prevent it from happening again?

Hello  by default it’s Windows Boot Manager and if necessary, repair the boot  but you can enter the BIOS setup to see the other options, and check that the correct boot file is selected  that said, if this issue occurs without any action on your part (or anyone who has had the device in their hands) then it’s possible that only a factory reset will save you, but you will lose all photos, apps, and anything else that hasn’t been backed up  yes the factory reset is different from the menu you currently have)

re  this could be due to malware, a virus, or just a bug! hard to say... run a scan with Malwarebytes, it can't hurt then start backing up your photos, documents, license keys in plain text, drivers, and everything that matters to you on a dedicated USB stick or external hard drive, in case one day you need to reset everything

Yes, I will make a backup. I already have all the photos and videos on an external hard drive, but it's more or less up to date... However, you're talking about a license key and drivers, but what exactly are they and where can I find them? (Yes, my computer skills are pretty basic) I started the scan.

re  the license is your activation key for Windows  often on commercially purchased PCs, it is an OEM license, which only belongs to that PC and this license is recorded and encrypted in the BIOS, so you will not find it as is!  you need to use a small program: winfokeys which is free  and there, miracle, your key will be displayed in plain text, you will then need to copy it carefully respecting the lowercase, uppercase, and numbers  then paste this paper under the PC, like the old stickers from before, or keep this paper in a safe place where you can easily find it for your drivers:  over time, Windows does updates, and you may also do them manually, and these drivers will be lost in case of reinstallation.  Windows will find some of them, most of them even, but probably in the old version; or "generic" driver, it can even happen that Windows does not find a driver for a particular application (screen, wifi or bluetooth, built-in webcam or touchpad or a peripheral).  it is therefore better to save all your drivers to avoid tedious searches (always in case of reinstallation)  download drivermax; sign up (it's free) and make a backup of all your drivers  be careful, the basic version in very simple English with intuitive icons is free but will only save  certified drivers (WHQL) or with Windows certification  (just another money issue) but sufficient in most cases  you need the version above to be able to save (and reinstall afterwards) all drivers, certified or not) but it's so convenient when you see that everything reinstalls in just a few minutes, and to have internet right away, to revalidate a license for example, and receive Windows updates
