Booting issue: reboot and select proper boot device[...]

Hello,

I saw a similar topic, but my problem is a bit more complicated...

When starting up, my computer displayed this error message "reboot and select proper boot device or insert media in select boot device and press key." When I went into the BIOS, the hard drive was not recognized. I restarted, and then nothing...

But since then, every time I turn off my PC, it gives me this error message again. I tried removing the battery, which worked for the startup, but the problem was the same the next time. Worse still, since then, my keyboard is no longer recognized at startup (LED keyboard, it doesn't light up either. I can no longer access the BIOS). I have to keep restarting until it finally boots normally.

Once it's started, the PC has no issues, except that my Wi-Fi dongle is occasionally not recognized.

Please tell me it's not the motherboard.... :'(

Thank you very much.... !!

Configuration: Windows 7

Welcome to the Forum, itoux!

My first instinct would be to check the state of the connectivity and power supply... and to check the boot priority in the BIOS.

Sometimes there are old settings saved, but indeed by removing the battery you have performed a clear CMOS (resetting the settings of your machine's BIOS) and this avenue is well eliminated.

Have you considered performing a repair via the installation CD/DVD? If you have the installation DVD/CD, we could try to wipe the HDD (using the command prompt and the help of the installation DVD/CD) and then reinstall the OS.

By the way, is your HDD okay? Don't hesitate to run a diagnostic using the manufacturer's utility to check its integrity.

If you remember any details about the circumstances under which the issue first occurred, please feel free to share them, thanks :)

Another possible option (to test) would be to check in the BIOS (if it's a UEFI) to disable "secure boot" and change UEFI to CSM... You never know (save + exit).

@itoux, let us know what happens next, please :)
See you soon

Thank you Sannin!

The connections are good. My computer is only two years old and very well maintained.

The OS installation was done two months ago with this same configuration, same connections. So there's no issue on that side.

The hard drive is also new, as I had a problem with an old hard drive under warranty, returned to WD.

The issue happened suddenly, all at once. No warning signs, except for my Wi-Fi key that disconnects and reconnects (maybe it’s an issue with the key, because despite changing the USB port, the problem is the same).

I did go into the BIOS, and the boot options were set to UEFI. I don't know how I missed that during my last visits to the BIOS.... -_-'

However, I don't know why sometimes in the system status in the BIOS, my two hard drives were not recognized as connected. The customer service advised me to check with different power connections.

I hope the problem is resolved, since it didn't happen all the time, but I think so. Thank you all, you've really helped me!!

I will come back here if the issue arises again. ^_^
