Slow computer shutdown

Solved

Hello,

Since yesterday, my computer takes an enormous amount of time to turn off (after 15 minutes, nothing happens so I had to do it manually), and this has been happening ever since a bunch of little icons of a gray checkered planet appeared in my taskbar. Moreover, the internet is very slow and doesn’t want to open pages at all...
The hard drive was changed 6 months ago, so where could the problem come from? Is it a virus?

Thank you in advance for your responses,
Best regards

Configuration: iPhone / Chrome 46.0.2490.76

    Hello!

You can be 99% sure that it's a virus. So, you need to scan your PC for viruses. You will find software that allows you to scan the computer on the website www.commentcamarche.net.

But I think the first thing to do is to restore a point that is dated before the appearance of your icons. If that doesn't solve the issues, then scan your computer with one of the virus detection software.

However, very often these programs detect viruses but only put the infected files in quarantine.

Quarantine gets rid of the viruses but also makes the infected files unusable. Few free programs repair infected files.

If your infected files are part of software that you own, then uninstall those programs and reinstall them. But if the registry is affected and you don't have any healthy restore points, you will need to reinstall Windows.

If you reinstall Windows, prioritize installing an antivirus, update Windows, and as soon as you are done, create an image of the C: partition of your hard drive. In case of problems, you can reinstall this image which will take you about 10 minutes if you don't have to reinstall Windows.

Then on the other partitions, install your personal data and your software.

    Hey!

      Hi!

I just read Malekal_morte's message. You can follow this advice: I went to the FRST website. Indeed, the solution seems good to me but I think this whole process is interesting because it can save you from reinstalling Windows.

However, if in the end you do need to reinstall Windows, then make a system image of the operating system (C drive) afterwards. Since I've been doing this, I assure you I no longer have any hassle. If I really have a problem, I revert to that system image. We no longer need the system DVDs (unless of course we can't boot into Windows). In that case, you will need to reinstall Windows and then restore the system image.
Expect about 45 minutes for that. If you can restore the image without having to reinstall Windows, count on 15 minutes and you’re all set. In both cases, you will still need to reinstall any software that is not included in your system image.

I guarantee you that by doing this, you’ll be free of headaches. You’ll be at peace!

      Cheers!
