Battery connected to the mains power - what does it mean?

Hello, I just followed a tip about batteries that no longer hold a charge, saying that you should remove the battery and insert it again while leaving the laptop on and plugged in. So I did it, and now I don't even have a percentage; it just says "battery plugged in charging," and before, when it didn't have a charge, it showed 0% while charging. Hello. If the battery no longer holds a charge, it means it's dead, but you can definitely leave it in place... Best regards
