Unwanted automatic shutdown

Hello,

Here is my problem: for a little while now, my computer has been turning off by itself quite frequently, but what's strange is that it's as if it's in sleep mode because as soon as I touch one of the keys on the keyboard, it restarts (since the beginning, hence why I consider that it turns off by itself). I can barely use my computer because of this, and that's why I kindly ask you to help me solve this problem.

Thank you.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Is there not a process that kicks in like "system shutdown"? Does it happen all of a sudden like that?

Go to start/run and type eventvwr.
Go to the applications and systems sections and look for errors (indicated by a red icon) or warnings (indicated by a yellow icon) that correspond to the time the problem occurred. Double-click on the error or warning and paste the content here.

Ah ... I didn't know that, thanks for the tip. So what does youv18 give?

No, there is no "system shutdown" process that is launching, and I typed eventvwr in run but apparently no errors correspond to the times when the computer shuts down by itself.

    Hi

Check the Power Management (control panel) to see if everything is normal... you never know ^^

Perform a cleanup with Ccleaner and Regseeker.

    Hello,

I have the same issue with Windows Vista. My PC shuts down from time to time and restarts.

I see this in the event log:

The previous system shutdown at 19:41:39 on 16/08/2007 was unexpected.

And that's it. I have other errors, but they are a consequence of this planned shutdown.

In addition to this problem, I have an issue with the screensaver: when I don’t do anything on the computer for a while, instead of going to sleep, it often completely freezes. I have to shut it down abruptly (even Ctrl+ALT+Del doesn’t work).

It seems to me that Vista is really crap, right? It's super slow too...

Anyway, thanks in advance if you have any idea what might be going on...
