How to remove write protection from your USB drive

Hello,
I have a problem with my USB drive. Whenever I try to put a photo, a movie, or anything else on it, it says "This disk is write-protected - Remove the write protection or use another disk."
So I've looked around and saw that I needed to format the drive. That's what I tried to do, but even when I want to format it, it says "The disk is write-protected."
I would like to know how to remove the write protection from my USB drive without using formatting?
Thank you for your response :)

Hello jinforme,

Since the locking of a USB key could be caused by several elements, including a definitive hardware failure, I suggest you start by checking a few basic elements:

> You have already checked well, and since your USB key is devoid of any switch (good lead, aebischerle :) ), let's move on to checking access permissions:

1. Right-click on the key > Properties

2. Click on the Security tab

3. Click Advanced > Owner tab

4. Click Edit > and your username (check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects)

5. Click Apply > OK

6. In the Permissions tab click on Edit Permissions

7. Click on Add > enter your username > click OK

8. Check Full Control in the Allow column > click OK

9. Select Include permissions that can be inherited from the parent of this object and Replace all child object permissions with permissions that can be inherited from this object.

10. Click Apply > click OK

> Also don’t forget to check the attributes:

click on Start > Run > type CMD in the text box > Enter > type diskpart > Enter > type: list disk > Enter > type: select disk # (where # is the number that your USB key has in Disk Management. Caution: be careful not to get the number wrong > Enter > type attributes disk clear readonly > Enter > type: Exit

> Have you tested the USB key on another computer?

Once you do these checks, and if you come back here, please let me know what happens next, thanks :)

See you soon on the Forum :)
