Hello,
I have a sheet feeder on top of my printer that allows me to print or scan a stack of papers; the feeder scans them one by one...
On Wednesday evening, a sheet stopped halfway while it was straight, the sheet was not torn, in short, no reason for it to suddenly stop.
I gently pulled out the sheet. Since then, I've received this error message: "Cannot scan, copy, or send a fax." No matter what I do, whether it's scanning or photocopying, I get this message. I can only print from the computer. The multifunction printer doesn't even go into standby anymore, and to turn it off, I have to unplug it.
I tried reinstalling the driver on my computer, restoring the settings to factory defaults, clearing the printer's memory, and leaving the printer off for 2 days (which worked the first time).
I called HP, and they told me that I've done all the necessary steps, so they offered me the same printer, brand new, at a 30% discount.
I think it's a software problem that's making the printer malfunction, and that it's not a hardware issue.
I tried reinstalling the printer's firmware, but when I launched it, HP’s software tells me that the firmware is up to date. It doesn't offer me the option to reinstall it.
I would like to force the installation of the firmware, but I don't know how to do it.
What do you think? If you believe the diagnosis is correct, what should I do?
Thank you in advance for your help, which I am sure will be very beneficial!
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 39.0

Good evening,
If you think there is really a software issue, it may be enough to reinstall it, but some steps are necessary beforehand.
First thing, you must imperatively remove all traces of the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer from the PC, nothing should remain, no drivers, no software, nothing.
Disconnect the printer from the computer and then restart it.
Download, save, and install OJ8600_1315-1.exe, the suite of software and drivers.
During the installation process, you will be prompted to connect the printer; do so only at that moment.
In principle, if it's a software issue, the printer should work after this.
If that's not the case, there must be other problems.
Best regards.

Hello domi65700
I have exactly the same problem as you, I can't use the scanner from the printer. HP 8600 Plus and Windows 7
The same phenomenon of the half-printed page happened to me. I didn't think it was symptomatic, but your identical description with the same consequence can't be a coincidence.
However, scanning initiated from the PC is possible.
I searched for 2 hours on Google and HP, no clue about the bug
Does anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance if you have a solution :) -
I also add that if I try to set up the printer from its IP address,
I get a message:
"You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact your network administrator or the person who set up the printer."
AND nothing allows me to reactivate the scan option.
Does anyone have any idea how to proceed?
Thanks :)
