Hello everyone,
Context
I have a triple play offer with Free with a Freebox server and Revolution player. My connection speed is poor. The use of freeplugs between the server and the player is not satisfactory (regular desynchronization, freezing images, sound cutting… unbearable!) So, I pulled a 30m RJ45 cat6 cable between the server (in the basement) and the player (in the living room). There, it works correctly.
What I would like to do
I would like to take advantage of the cable pulled to the living room to connect:
- my home cinema amplifier (on which I can receive internet radios)
- the alarm system…
- and a Wi-Fi router to have Wi-Fi internet access in the living room where I have very poor Wi-Fi reception from the server in the basement
What I did that doesn't work
I thought that I could:
- connect the cable coming from the server to a Wi-Fi router
- and connect the Free player, my amplifier, and the alarm to this same Wi-Fi router via RJ45 cable as well.
Unfortunately, in this case, the TV does not work.
What should I do?
Is it the use of a router that prevents what comes from the server from reaching the player?
Would it work if I replaced the router with a switch and connected everything (including my router for Wi-Fi) to the switch?
Otherwise, what do you recommend?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards!!

Thank you Phil2k,
It's an old Netgear wifi router... I don't know how to use it as a switch! I thought it acted as a switch natively with the 5 or 6 RJ45 ports on the back! But that's clearly not the case, and I understand that a router and a switch do not serve the same functions.
Can you confirm that it should work with a switch?
Thank you

For the router, it has a built-in switch, usually.
But you need to configure it a bit to use it as a switch and not as a router.
