Hello everyone,
Having recently acquired an Asus R511L, I wanted to upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB by adding a 4GB stick.
Little problem. The stick I added is not recognized, neither by the BIOS nor by Windows.
Here's my beast https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/ordinateurs-pc-portables/pc-portables/l-1070992.html#desc
Any practical advice?
Thank you very much in advance.
Julien

The original RAM stick does not appear in any of the slots in the SPD tab.
It is impossible to test with the original RAM without completely disassembling the PC. Moreover, I am almost certain it is integrated into the motherboard. When accessing the free slot for the RAM, you can see components of a RAM stick fixed to the motherboard.
To reach the other slot(s), if there are any, I will have to take apart the whole PC ><
But I hadn't thought about checking the frequency of the RAM sticks.
I will already do tests with 1600MHz sticks.
Thanks for the info.
I will come back once the tests are done.

Hello,
unfortunately your phone is not listed on the Asus website, so we will need to feel our way through...
Could you please provide the brand and model of the original RAM stick, for example using CPU-Z, under the SPD tab
as well as the brand and model of the purchased stick?

Hello Marc,
Original stick: I think it must be directly integrated somewhere on the motherboard. It is not indicated in the SPD tab with CPU-Z.
In the memory tab: DDR3, 800MHz with spikes up to +1500, size 4GB
Stick purchased: Actually, I didn’t buy it in a store, I salvaged it from my old PC that recently passed away. An Asus ROG G53SX
RAM description materiel.net:
Type SO-DIMM DDR3
Frequency 1333 MHz

Have you checked the different memory slots?
Your stick might be in slot 2, leaving slot 1 empty
In the memory tab: DDR3, 800MHz
It's DDR3 1600MHz
However, your retrieved stick is 1333MHz:
It may not be compatible with your PC
To be sure, remove the original stick and replace it with this retrieved stick
Let me know if it works
Even if it works, it's not a good idea to mix stick frequencies, it slows down your PC

ok, it is probably integrated into the motherboard as you said
in any case the "memory" tab indicates that it's DDR3 at 1600 MHz,
I recommend a second module at the same frequency
keep me posted
