Excellent WiFi signal but no internet...!

Hello,
here's my problem:

I've searched on several forums but still haven't found a solution; most of the suggestions I've tried but no luck...!!

So here it is, at home I have a Freebox HD connection, with two computers; a desktop connected via Ethernet directly to the Freebox that works great: internet connection 100/100, and a laptop that I'm trying to connect via Wi-Fi without success.

Normally, I've configured my Freebox in router mode, with DHCP enabled (start: 192.168.0.1 end: 192.168.0.50), Freebox IP: 192.168.0.254, desktop IP: 192.168.0.1, laptop IP: 192.168.0.2.
So on my laptop if I set the IP and DNS settings to automatic it indicates that the status of my Wi-Fi connection is: limited or nonexistent, and if I enter all the IP and DNS parameters manually this time the Wi-Fi signal strength is excellent but I still can't access the internet, I also tried to ping my Freebox but nothing.

I admit that I don't know what to do, so please, a little help.
Thank you
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.4

On the PC level, I have the same gateway as my Freebox 192.168.0.254. I set it to automatic, but the problem is that in this case, when I connect via Wi-Fi, it tells me that I have a limited or nonexistent connection...!! So I switch to manual and there the signal is excellent but no internet..!!

Hello, I'm resurrecting this post because I have the exact same issue. I would like to know if you have resolved it. Where do you stand today?

The connection to my second PC no longer works despite an excellent signal. I want to point out that it is not a channel problem because I am in an independent house and no other networks appear besides mine.

Hi! I don't know if you have found the solution to this Wi-Fi internet connection problem. Anyway, I'm not the one to give you one since I'm in the same situation; whatever device I try to connect with via Wi-Fi, it’s the same: the signal is excellent but there’s no internet connection, although the local network works fine.
So help!!!!

Still nothing, everything seems to be properly configured. As soon as I set the IP and DNS parameters manually, the Wi-Fi connection is excellent, but I can't access the internet. On automatic, it's even worse: no connection and the signal strength is too weak...

I found a post on the forum

Hi. If your PC or portable Wi-Fi device doesn't see the Wi-Fi network of the Freebox, it's not a big deal: go to network connections, right-click on wireless network (even with a red cross), properties, wireless network configuration, click add, and there configure your network properly with name, WEP key and everything as explained in the user manual, click ok everywhere and in principle, miracle, the network is found and works great.
As for the Wi-Fi speed that remains at 1 M, it may come from a bad configuration. When configuring the card or Wi-Fi key, you shouldn't let Windows establish the network automatically; otherwise, it creates a network bridge that blocks everything at 1 M.
Regarding the LEDs, as long as the power is on, it's good, the link only blinks when you send or receive.

Another post that might help you!!!

Hi everyone,
Since I looked into this topic before setting up my Wi-Fi, it’s only normal that I share this information, just in case it might help someone...
Indeed, for me, the Wi-Fi setup went relatively smoothly, without any issues... My only regret is that Free only offers the 802.11 b card, whereas this standard is already outdated... but oh well.
I connected my three machines to the network with shared connection without much difficulty. And if I succeeded, everyone can do it!
1_You must go to this address http://adsl.free.fr/comptes/ to activate the Wi-Fi function. (Make sure to note the WEP key you will generate)
And at this address for the router function activation: http://adsl.free.fr/admin/routeur.html
2_install the Wi-Fi devices on the machines
3_insert the Wi-Fi card into the Freebox, and reboot
4_configure the Wi-Fi devices on each machine using your WEP key generated above... there you go, that’s all.

For your information, I have 3 machines on the network, including an Ibook, all equipped with 802.11g, and it doesn’t cause any issues. I can move away with my laptop more than twenty meters without the connection being interrupted while listening to music with downloads ongoing on all 3 machines simultaneously...
there you go, if I can help, email me.

Eric

Hello everyone

I'm also having a problem with the wifi connection.

So I have the Freebox HD, my desktop PC is connected via an Ethernet cable, and I just acquired a laptop that I've connected via wifi.

I think I've configured everything correctly since I managed to get the internet connection, it works fine, but from time to time, or often, the network confirms that the signal is excellent, but then nothing, I have no internet.

Can anyone tell me where this problem comes from, whether it's due to the configuration or not.

Thank you very much.

Good evening sirenadu69!!!

I have the same issue as you:

Can someone tell me where this problem comes from, is it due to the configuration or not?"

HAVE YOU FOUND A SOLUTION????

Good evening melissa0785,

Like you, I was experiencing connection issues; it worked, and then suddenly nothing.

So, to solve my problem, I regularly change the channel in the configuration on free.fr. After that, I obviously have to restart the Freebox.
I change the channel because when several people connect on the same channel (your neighbors, for example), it creates congestion (I don't know how else to say it). So I go through the channels one by one until I get a uninterrupted connection.

I managed to have a connection without issues for a few days, a miracle, and once it starts acting up, I change the channel again.

And there you go, I hope this will work for you too.

Have a good evening.

I solved the problem after a week of research. The webpage wouldn't open despite the excellent connection.
You need to go to
TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - CONNECTIONS - LAN SETTINGS -
Check: Automatically detect settings....
Uncheck: Use a proxy server....
And that's it.

I have a Livebox and when I want it to recognize a Wi-Fi key, I have to press a button to put it into pairing mode.
It's an idea!!!

Have you solved your problem? Because I have the exact same one and I can't figure it out!

I had the same problem before.. be very careful with the sensitivity of Ethernet cables. As for me, it was the PLC cable behind the Freebox HD! At the slightest movement of the box, my Wi-Fi computer had an excellent signal quality but no bandwidth (6 kb negligible -.-') anyway, here’s a nice product this box (ironic!=)

My post dates back to October 2008, here’s what happened in the end:

Being with Free, it's important to know that this operator does not display any error message when an incorrect password is entered. It acts as if the connection is excellent but in fact, there is no connection!

So, if you are with Free, check and re-check your password, especially if it is long!

Sorry!

I should have told you. I’m with Orange, so I have the Livebox.

Thank you for your interest already.

Simple solution :-) what a relief

To all those who struggled like me... the solution is very simple!

Reminder of the problem:

The box well configured, network detected (visible in the list), excellent signal
BUT no internet access (it says limited access, or unidentified network...)

Solution
Go to: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections
Depending on your system... find the network connections (not difficult)
You will find three networks (local area connection, broadband connection, wireless network connection)

And there I disabled the other connections (right-click...) leaving only the wireless network enabled.
What a joy!

What is your gateway configuration in your PCs' settings?
Why don't you set it to automatic to obtain your IPs?
