Thank you for your feedback, jonquille79220 :)
It would rather be about the hard drive's file system. This file system serves as an intermediary (a digital interpreter) in the communication between the TV and the connected device. The format of the files you want to read from the TV is also important and should be supported by the TV, but if the error message states that no device is detected, it would be wise to perform the check I mentioned in my previous message. Do you think it could be an issue related to the TV's USB port?
See you later

Hello jonquille79220,
If the USB drives as well as the HDD work elsewhere, you should look for the cause of the issue at the USB port of the TV. However, it would be good to do some cross-testing to identify the source... Have you tested the USB drives and the HDD on a PC? ... or even on another TV (different from yours)?
By the way, what is the file system (the format) of the USB drives and the HDD (check by right-clicking on them > Properties or by consulting Disk Management (simultaneously press Windows+R > type diskmgmt.msc > Enter)? I'm asking you this because often certain TV models only support the FAT32 format. If you keep the TV documentation, you could take a look and verify.
Do you remember any particular manipulations or circumstances that might have led to this situation?
Let me know the details, please :)
See you soon on the Forum!

Thank you for your help, the USB keys and the hard drive work on my PC and on my living room TV!
On my ANTARION brand TV, the manual states that it can play AVI files, yet my movies are properly recorded in AVI
As soon as I turn on the TV and my USB key or hard drive is connected, the TV shows "no device"
See you soon -
The two TVs are installed in a camper van and are relatively new; the USB port has never been used, so it would be surprising if both had the same problem!!
See you! -
Hello
Avi is not a format but a container for many codecs like DivX, Xvid, DV, MPEG-2/4, and audio formats such as AC3, MP3, PCM, etc.
So AVI is not precise enough

Hello and thank you for this response, but I do not understand your answer: on my hard drive, the extension is AVI and I play it on my living room TV, so it's definitely a movie format, right? I tried converting it to MKV and on the camper TV the response is "no device"! So the problem must be something other than the recording format??
Thank you, see you soon. -
Hi jonquille79220,
It seems that the issue is not with the files you are reading. You have checked and if the TV's manual indicates that AVI files can be read, there's no need to convert them. Based on your description and according to the message "no device," the TV does not recognize the external hard drive/USB stick as a location where files are stored/as a USB-connected device.
For this reason, I suggest again to take another look at the manual and see what file system the TV supports (NTFS, FAT32). The file system is the format of the hard drive itself, not that of the files it contains.
On the other hand, it's important to know the current format of the hard drive itself: is it FAT32 or NTFS? To find out, you just need to follow the steps I outlined in my message <1>.
Once you have this information, we will cross-check to see if the issue stems from that.
If your living room TV properly recognizes the external hard drive/USB stick connected to it and reads the files (movies) on it without any issues, it seems the hard drive is in the suitable file system. We just need to find out if this file system (the format) of the hard drive itself is the one suitable for TVs that respond "No device." We'll see ;)
I’m keeping an eye on this topic!

DD: NTFS file system
TV: FAT 32
Following this observation, I copied to a FAT system drive, which is also not suitable; maybe it has to be strictly FAT 32?? -
Thank you jonquille79220 :) It seems that you found the answer... The hard drive's file system itself is not supported by the TV, which is why there is a lack of communication between the two. In order to use storage devices on these TVs, it would be necessary to assign them the file system that the TV supports, which is FAT32.
If you choose to convert the hard drive to FAT32, please remember that there are certain drawbacks not to be overlooked: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=gYAjhk. Furthermore, given some specifics of this file system, reformatting a hard drive larger than 32 GB might need to be done using additional software. I am sending you an article that will explain how to do it: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=CvI2ve.
Keep me updated, please :)

Hello, I just went through the two links, but I can't find anything for Windows 8.1. It would be easier for me to buy a key or an external hard drive with FAT 32 system, is that possible? Or do I have to convert them? My question might make you smile.... but I’m not very good with computers and I'm afraid to start a conversion! Thank you again for your help.

@jonquille79220, if you want to use this hard drive and these USB keys on TVs that do not accept them, formatting to FAT32 would be necessary. Don't forget that formatting will delete the data that is already stored on the hard drive (the USB keys). This means that it would be necessary to back up the content elsewhere (move it to another storage device), format the hard drive (or USB key), and then put the data back on the hard drive (or USB key) to read it on the TVs.
Furthermore, formatting to FAT32 from Windows (for large capacity storage devices) would require additional software, as indicated in the second link I sent you. In this case, you would need to download and install this software on the PC and just follow the instructions when launching it.
Keep me updated on your progress, please :)

And there you go, I formatted a USB stick in FAT16 and I saved a little video clip. My USB stick is recognized and I was able to view my video! I formatted it from my computer because I couldn't find how to download the software from the link with Windows 8.1!! If you still have a bit of patience to tell me exactly where I need to go to download, otherwise I'll ask my son to take a look!! In the meantime, thank you so much for your help.

No worries, jonquille79220 :)
I did a little digging for you and I'm sending you a topic that explains how to format a USB drive in FAT32: https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-27474450-formater-cle-usb-en-fat32
As for the external hard drive: you just need to open the link I sent you, click on "Windows 7, Vista, and XP," and in the section "Using third-party software (for more recent external hard drives, i.e., those made after 2007)" click on the hyperlinks to see (the suggestions would also apply to Windows 8.1) ;).
Let me know what happens next, please :) -
@jonquille79220, Have a nice holiday! ;)
Just a clarification :) The Acronis True Image WD Edition software for Windows is intended for Western Digital internal hard drives. Feel free to take a look at the entire article I sent you: when you open the link http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=CvI2ve you click on the hypertext links "Windows 7, Vista and XP" > then you go to the section "Using third-party software (for newer external hard drives, that is, those designed after 2007)" > then you click on the hypertext links "Google" or "Microsoft Bing" :)
Thank you for keeping me updated ;)
Catch you later!

Hello, sorry for the delay, I've finally taken the time to look into this problem! I downloaded FAT32Formatter after formatting my external hard drive to FAT32, I converted my movies, and everything is going wonderfully! Thank you for your help which has been very valuable to me and see you soon maybe!!
