Bac STI2D : ITEC ou SIN ?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to get straight to the point, I'm in the second year of high school, it's almost over (finally!), I need to stick to a diploma and a path that suits me.

I'm crazy about electronics (repair, assembly, components...etc) so I was thinking of doing a STI2D diploma to then pursue a BTS in electronics.

But the problem is that I'm really hesitating between SIN and ITEC.
In your opinion, which one should I choose considering my interests?
Am I right to choose STI2D?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am in my first year of STI2D with a focus on SIN, which is mainly about electronics and networks. Based on your message, that's what I recommend you choose. In ITEC (even though I'm not really in a position to tell you about it since I didn't choose that option), it's more about mechanics and using the Solidworks software for modeling.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me, I will be happy to respond.

Thank you for your response, that's really nice of you!
Indeed, I was already more inclined to go for SIN from the start, but you know there have been a lot of naysayers who made me doubt. (including the teachers)
Yes, in ITEC, it's more about mechanics, tests on materials and all that... without saying I don't like it, it's not where I see myself in the future...

Honestly, do you, for example, enjoy it?
Is it really just a place where everyone is slacking off like I've been told?

If I like STI2D, it's thanks to the SIN option that I find very interesting because I'm more into electronics and programming. From the first year, there is already a project (at least in my school) that is graded and counts towards the average, to prepare for the final year where the real project will count towards the final exam grade.
This year in SIN we covered topics such as number systems (conversion between binary, hex, decimal, etc.), Boolean algebra, basic programming (C, flowcode, LabVIEW), and activities on networks (hubs, switches).
There is a cross-disciplinary subject that includes courses and activities on each option, so even while doing SIN, we cover things from EE or ITEC, and we can switch options during the year and between the first and final years.
Regarding the people who slack off, yes it's true that in certain subjects when the teacher is not very strict, it quickly turns into chaos, especially in a class with a majority (if not exclusively) male students.

Oh yeah, I see, that's really cool to be able to change; in my opinion, once I get the hang of it, it should be easy.
About the programs and all that, it requires a lot of knowledge in math; by the way, isn't math too hard in STI2D?
Well, as for the turbulence, you could say there’s a bit everywhere... you should see my second-year class right now... but I was speaking more from a general point of view, it seems like there’s a good atmosphere... speaking of the girls, I’m even surprised there are some in your section, you know :)

Apparently, the math curriculum in STI2D is the same as in S but simplified. Personally, I don't find it that complicated: scalar product, second-degree equations, work of a force, angle measurements in radians, etc.; you just need to study well and pay attention in class and it works out. Otherwise, there are also a lot of math in technical subjects (SIN, ITEC especially, and in transversal subjects) and in physics-chemistry.

Thank you, thank you for all your answers. Sorry, I had put this topic aside a bit. Well, I think I'll choose sin, but I'm still not very reassured about math because that's my weak point....
Apparently, math in STI2D is not very related to the second year anymore.
