When I receive messages via Thunderbird with attachments (doc, xls...), they are integrated as hieroglyphs in the body of the message - When printing the message, a hundred pages are printed in hieroglyphs.
The fact of unchecking "Display attachments in the message" is not suitable for me as it causes other problems: we can no longer open the attachments in received messages + the history when replying no longer appears.
Do you have another solution? Thank you.

Hello,
I am responding 1 year later to this issue, as I just encountered it and found the solution.
It seems to be coming from the mimetypes.rdf file located in the Thunderbird profile.
In my case, the syntax of the file was corrupted in certain places.
To resolve the issue, delete the mimetypes.rdf file and restart Thunderbird.
That's it.

Incredible, it works for me too, a bit differently:
with Thunderbird 17.0.5 all of a sudden and I don’t know why my PDFs as attachments were sent with a content-type: plain/text and therefore for my recipients the attached PDFs wanted to open with Notepad: by deleting the MimeTypes.rdf file everything went back to normal... thanks -
